Boy number two is due in early march, and we just can’t find the right name! Our firstborn is [name]Rowen[/name] [name]John[/name], which we chose due to its meaning (the dictionary meaning “to regain”, as we had previously lost a baby) and mn after both my dad and my husband’s dad.
For our second, I would like a name that is more than one syllable, as our last name is only one and sounds like “sue”. There is a name trend on my husband’s side to end names in “n”, which I like. Middle name will be [name]Max[/name] (the name my husband goes by) or [name]James[/name]. The meaning of the name is somewhat important to my husband. I prefer names that are less common and don’t have obvious nicknames.
I have been considering [name]Callan[/name], but am not a fan of the nn “[name]Cal[/name]”. We talked about maybe using [name]Cannen[/name] instead, but with both of us being photographers, we figured people would assume we REALLY like our Canons ;). Plus, there’s no significant meaning with that name that we could find.
I like [name]Kavan[/name], as my maiden name starts with Ka and my mom’s maiden starts with [name]Van[/name], but I much prefer the spelling [name]Cavan[/name]… Which then loses the family significance (right?)
Husband likes [name]Case[/name], but I don’t think it works with our last name or the middle names. On the plus side, my great grandfather was named [name]Kees[/name] (dutch, pronounced [name]Case[/name]). I would love to use a Dutch name, but most are not easy on English tongues…
I love [name]Ashlan[/name], but it has been pointed out by everyone to be much too feminine.
Anyway, I was hoping some of you clever berries might have some helpful suggestions?? I am soooo picky with names-coming up with [name]Rowen[/name]'s was incredibly difficult and we didn’t even name him until he was three days old. Coming up with another boy name, that “goes” with [name]Rowen[/name] is seemingly impossible!
[name]Gideon[/name] comes to mind. I think a three-syllable name would work best. Others:
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Anderson[/name]
[name]Jameson[/name] (It’s not three syllables but you could do [name]Jameson[/name] [name]Max[/name] to get both of those names in one shot.)
I don’t think [name]Cavan[/name] necessarily loses its significance without the K up front; it still replicates those sounds. If you make the choice to honor those names with [name]Cavan[/name], then you are honoring those names… I think it’s one of those things where it’s the thought and personal meaning that counts (unless you want those two connections to be super obvious to others). So [name]Cavan[/name] [name]James[/name] would be my first pick. [name]Rowen[/name] and [name]Cavan[/name] sound like well-matched brothers. By contrast, [name]Case[/name] would be the first one I’d eliminate since it sounds awkward (to me) with those middles and a one syllable last name. [name]Cason[/name] would be a good alternative, though it might feel like a trendy take on [name]Jason[/name]. I think that disliking [name]Cal[/name] would be a good reason to knock [name]Callan[/name] off, too. [name]Kiernan[/name], [name]Ciaran[/name]/[name]Kieran[/name], [name]Keegan[/name], [name]Tiernan[/name], Caolan, [name]Keenan[/name]/Cianan, [name]Conlan[/name], [name]Conran[/name], [name]Corbin[/name], [name]Corin[/name] all have similar sounds…
What about [name]Canaan[/name]? I think that would be good for you. I’ll throw out a few suggestions, some based on names you listed and some just out of random.
