Brother for Rue and Posy

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] namers,

We just found out that our third baby due in [name_f]October[/name_f] is a BOY! We need help naming this child. We have two girls. [name_f]Ruthanne[/name_f] [name_m]Loy[/name_m] is 4, and we call her [name_u]Rue[/name_u]. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is 2, and we call her [name_f]Posy[/name_f]. Our last name rhymes with Cloakdell.

The new baby’s name MUST have a cute modern nature nickname that we could use, but a formal name for the birth certificate. I would prefer no nickname ending in “y” or “ie”. It’s also important to me that the name not be popular, not top 300 or so. No repeating initials, so no R or P.

Our top choice right now is [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. It was my grandfather’s name. His nickname was [name_m]Butch[/name_m]. What do you think about using that nickname? It lacks the nature connection plus it has a somewhat negative connotation, but it’s sentimental to me. We are also considering [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. The letters are all there? Does it work?

Other options we like are [name_m]Griffith[/name_m] nn [name_m]Griff[/name_m] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u].

Help! Thoughts on [name_m]Albert[/name_m] or other name suggestions? The middle name will likely be [name_u]Salem[/name_u] or [name_m]Whitman[/name_m].

I really like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is one of my favorite nn for a boy OR girl. I don’t love [name_m]Albert[/name_m] but I don’t really dislike it either. The nickname [name_m]Butch[/name_m] doesn’t do it for me. I would prefer [name_m]Bear[/name_m].

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Salem[/name_u]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Whitman[/name_m]

Both of those sound perfect to me. I really am stuck on [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. It’s just so adorable.

I also really like the sound of [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_m]Whitman[/name_m]. It’s a little tougher with the nicknames but I’ve heard boys named [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] called Sawy (Soy), Saw, and Sir. You could also maybe do a meaning related nickname, like [name_m]Tim[/name_m]/[name_u]Timber[/name_u], something along those lines.

Or maybe [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]. [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]Salem[/name_u], [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_m]Whitman[/name_m]. Possible nn could be [name_m]Huck[/name_m] or Hud?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] nn. [name_u]Kit[/name_u]! [name_u]Rue[/name_u], [name_f]Posy[/name_f] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] sound great together. And much prefer [name_m]Bear[/name_m] to [name_m]Butch[/name_m]—I think it certainly works with [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. I like that [name_m]Albert[/name_m] has significance to you.

The only other idea that comes to mind right now is [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]/[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] nn. [name_u]Wren[/name_u].

[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] hits the right notes for me. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] strikes as a bit feminine though. My hesitation with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is that I think it kind of sounds “trendy”, and I was hoping to lean more towards clunky. For example, had this baby been a girl she would most certainly have been named [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] nn [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. I really really love [name_u]Rue[/name_u], [name_f]Posy[/name_f], and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] together though.

[name_m]Albert[/name_m] is lovely, and both [name_m]Butch[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] could be used. Especially as a baby / toddler or as a family used nickname [name_m]Butch[/name_m] could be pretty cute

[name_m]Albert[/name_m] [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is a great name. I find [name_m]Albert[/name_m] [name_m]Whitman[/name_m] nice as well, but it rolls off the tongue slightly less well [name_f]IMO[/name_f]

I like both of your other options, particularly [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] ([name_u]Finch[/name_u] could be a cute nature nickname), but [name_m]Albert[/name_m] is probably still my favourite. The family connection really tips it over the edge for me
