We are expecting a little boy in a few months, who will join big sis [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. We’ve got a few contenders, but there’s not one that speaks to us like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] did.
Some front-runners are:
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u])
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] ([name_u]Alex[/name_u]/[name_m]Alec[/name_m])
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_u]Beau[/name_u]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] & [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] go so well together…my only hesitation is that everyone (with the exception of me) would have C names, and my [name_m]SIL[/name_m] is a C too.
I like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (don’t love) and prefer [name_m]Alec[/name_m] to [name_u]Alex[/name_u], but DH likes [name_u]Alex[/name_u] better.
[name_u]Mason[/name_u] is a great name but no nickname. However, my husband’s grandfather was a mason so in a way it would be an honor name.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Beau[/name_u], but thinking it might be getting too popular.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is cute, but too girly?
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is nice and solid, but for me it kind of ends there.
Any input or suggestions are much appreciated. MN would most likely be [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] or [name_m]Thornton[/name_m] (depending on FN of course!)
Thanks!
I love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. I also really like [name_u]Mason[/name_u], however I know three little Masons born in the last year so probably wouldn’t use it. All of them are great with [name_f]Cora[/name_f]
If you’re worried about popularity, [name_u]Mason[/name_u] is up there, as a previous poster mentioned. My favorites from your list are [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_m]Alec[/name_m] (I would go straight for [name_m]Alec[/name_m], instead of as a nickname), [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] feel especially suited.
Also like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as previously suggested, with nn. [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] make a sweet pair!
[name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] remind me of [name_m]Rhett[/name_m], which is solidly masculine. (The [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] spelling isn’t girly to me, but [name_u]Reese[/name_u] is unisex and more popular for girls, so by sound [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] isn’t obviously a boy’s name.) [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f]! I think [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] works with all of your middles too.
Other ideas…
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] – solid name with a little more interest than [name_m]Jack[/name_m], perhaps?
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] (nn. [name_m]Luke[/name_m]) – that same hard C sound from [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. Makes a subtle connection to [name_f]Cora[/name_f] without starting with a C.
[name_u]Max[/name_u] – nickname-name, like [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but with the stylish X ending, like [name_u]Alex[/name_u]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]/[name_m]Milo[/name_m] – feels sweet and vintage like [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but all boy
I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] best from your list, followed by [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. And I like the family tie to [name_u]Mason[/name_u]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions! You nailed my name style, as lots of these names are on MY list…problem is, the DH won’t get behind [name_m]Boone[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Rhett[/name_m], etc…[name_u]Max[/name_u] would have been our slam dunk, but I grew up with a dog by the same name so that’s a no go! We made some headway this weekend, and are down to [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m], so I guess it will be a game time decision… thanks again!!
Between [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m], my choice would be [name_m]Charles[/name_m], and not just because I used it myself. I live in NYC, and it seemed like every little boy was being named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] just before they all started to be named [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. We named our son [name_m]Charles[/name_m] to honor my late father, and I was a bit worried that it would sound old-fashioned, but to my surprise we’ve met a half dozen other little Charlies over the past year. It seems to be on the uptick, though I hope it doesn’t become as popular here as [name_m]Jack[/name_m] was a decade ago. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it does, though, [name_f]IMO[/name_f] it’s always better to be one of the first people with a popular name than one of the last!
