Brother for Sophie and Emily?

I suffered name anxiety with our first two girls (genders discovered at birth) so for our third and last child we agreed to discover the gender to give us time to perhaps bond with our child and overcome my anxiety at committing to a name. First daughter took around 6 weeks to name and was sort of forced to choose a name ([name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - a name we both love and wouldn’t change), Second daughter took over two and a half months and I still have some name regret, ([name_f]Emily[/name_f]). First name does suit her now, but so would a lot of other names we considered strongly. Husband is particularly unhelpful - has always wanted [name_m]Merv[/name_m] for a boy (no reason whatsoever) which is a name I dislike and suspect it is to shut down baby name discussions. He has strong opinions on names which essentially rules out 99% of names. [name_m]Long[/name_m] story, but now months after finding out gender our lists are a bit strange - we don’t like overtly hipster or trendy names or obscure or adulterated names. Our name list includes:
[name_m]Angus[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Leroy[/name_m], Alberty/[name_m]Alby[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Harry[/name_m] (but so common here)
I also like [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_m]Hamish[/name_m], [name_m]Kip[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Valentino[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - but husband doesn’t like these.
Need any advice or suggestions please! (Our surname is long, beginning with ‘P’ ending in ‘n’ with a prefix of ‘van’). Thanks!

Lol i like your username. Defintely not [name_m]Merv[/name_m] - merv the perv would be quite damaging coming school age

I like Albe, [name_m]Kip[/name_m], and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] ([name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Gabe[/name_m])

You need something spunky with an “old man” feel to it. Your girls names could be cute little grandmas but suit little girls as well.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] & [name_m]Angus[/name_m]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] & [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]

These two are my favorites and I think they go well with your daughters’ names - here are some names, hope you will like them

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - I know you have [name_m]Angus[/name_m] on your list but I always liked [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] too and since your husband is fixated on an m name maybe he will give [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] a second thought

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - since you seem to like classic names I think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] will complete the sibling set perfectly

[name_m]Harris[/name_m] - not [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] and not [name_m]Harry[/name_m] but maybe a combination of two lovely names

[name_m]Simon[/name_m] - has a soft spot for [name_m]Simon[/name_m] but would you want to repeat letters?

[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] are both handsome names but I think [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] is a great name to consider too

From your list I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Angus[/name_m], [name_m]Alby[/name_m], and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and feel that you could choose any one of them and you would have chosen well!

I love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]

My first thought was [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], but that may be a problem with the last name?

I also like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] with your other kids names… and [name_m]Alby[/name_m] is adorable btw! I’d probably use [name_m]Albert[/name_m] as a full name (not Alberty), with nn [name_m]Alby[/name_m].

Suggestion:
[name_m]Elton[/name_m]
[name_m]Albus[/name_m]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_m]Ferris[/name_m]
[name_u]Royce[/name_u]
[name_m]Abner[/name_m]
[name_m]Fergus[/name_m]

I like [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] best with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]!

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and:

[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_m]Gage[/name_m]
[name_m]Ramone[/name_m]
[name_m]Rapheal[/name_m] ([name_u]Rafe[/name_u], Rager)
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u]
[name_u]Carmine[/name_u]
[name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Matteo[/name_m]
[name_m]Santiago[/name_m]
[name_m]Tiago[/name_m]
[name_m]Acacius[/name_m]
[name_m]Aloysius[/name_m]
[name_m]Alphonso[/name_m]
[name_m]Antony[/name_m]
[name_m]Anton[/name_m]

[name_m]Caio[/name_m]
[name_u]Cairo[/name_u]
[name_u]Cato[/name_u]
[name_m]Cipriano[/name_m]

I love [name_m]George[/name_m] with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f].

Thanks for all the suggestions - the long and the short ones! I showed my husband - who agreed ‘[name_m]Merv[/name_m]’ is largely to shut down baby name discussions over the last 5 years - and he says he doesn’t really take to any of the newer suggestions, sorry to say. [name_m]Harris[/name_m] was a great suggestion, but didn’t click quite enough, as was [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], but my husband said no because he knows a horse with this name… you can get the idea of how our discussions go…

What is reassuring is that the names I/we have shortlisted still remain my preference to most of the newer suggestions, once we factor in our location (Australia) and our long dutch surname.

[name_m]George[/name_m] (and [name_m]Albert[/name_m]) are our grandfather’s name, that I was keen on with my first child, but concerned that it may be seen as too common with the young [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] on the scene. Am also realising that as much as family names are nice to continue, were are independent, older parents, and no-one in either families really cares one iota about family traditions!

[name_m]Angus[/name_m] is the one name we both feel equally ok about, and perhaps is the default name until I feel strongly enough about another name to fight with my husband over it.

No-one seems to like [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] or [name_m]Leroy[/name_m], apart from us - wondered if we were missing something? fairly uncommon in our community, which was probably the attraction for me. And [name_u]Parker[/name_u] (too American?)?

Other names that I’ve come across on this site are:
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] (could be '[name_m]Mack[/name_m]" for short), [name_u]Darby[/name_u], [name_m]Dex[/name_m] (from [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]), [name_u]Lex[/name_u], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], and [name_m]Milo[/name_m] - but my concern is they might not fit with the girl’s names? And is rhyming with Sex kind of bad? Other one is [name_m]Peter[/name_m] - we know loads my age - but none at all under 20!

Would love to hear opinions on the above - really appreciate all the responses!!

Thanks - we have a 2 year old neice named [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] with the same surname so that’s out for me - but actually really works really well with surname - I love alliteration!

Shame your partner isn’t keen on [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] because I quite like it with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]!

Some ideas:
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m]
[name_m]Fergus[/name_m]
[name_u]Dane[/name_u]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Gordon[/name_m]
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Edgar[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilbur[/name_m]
[name_m]Rufus[/name_m]
[name_m]Gregor[/name_m]
[name_m]Warren[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] (maybe more your partner’s speed than [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]?)
[name_m]Morris[/name_m]
[name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]
[name_m]Roger[/name_m]
[name_m]Colm[/name_m]/[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]

[name_m]Angus[/name_m] fits the bill quite nicely. [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Albert[/name_m] are wonderful, but if you’re not feeling them, don’t hesitate to cross them off the list. Of your new names, I personally quite like [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], and [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. You can’t go wrong. Congratulations!

[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] are my favorites from your list. It’s a great list, I won’t make any more suggestions

[name_m]Jonah[/name_m] is fantastic with your daughters’ names.

From your list I like [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. From the second list I like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. I would suggest [name_m]Edward[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and [name_u]Rex[/name_u]! I don’t think it matters much that [name_u]Rex[/name_u] sounds like sex, it’s well known enough to withstand that I think. But I’m still going for [name_m]Albert[/name_m]

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_m]Leroy[/name_m], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Darby[/name_u] and [name_u]Lex[/name_u] aren’t really my taste. It might be a regional thing. Nothing wrong with them though, I don’t think you’re ‘missing anything’
