[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are having the hardest time naming our second baby boy! Our first’s name is [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], named after his two grandfathers. We only ever had one boy name we agreed on, so now coming up with #2 is incredibly hard.
Things we like in names:
- Easily spellable
- Recognizable, but not super popular right now
- Classic, but not stuffy (We’ve eliminated anything like [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_u]George[/name_u], etc)
- Has the ability for a nickname
No-gos:
- [name_m]Can[/name_m]'t start with D, J, M, or S (needs to have a first letter different than any immediate family or our last name, says my husband)
Help please! We’re very stuck.
Hmmm, I like…
Stephen and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] “[name_m]Artie[/name_m]”
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m] “[name_m]Rollo[/name_m]”
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m] and [name_m]Leon[/name_m] or [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] “[name_m]Leo[/name_m]”
Stephen and…

[name_m]Paul[/name_m]

[name_m]Zachary[/name_m] ‘[name_m]Zac[/name_m]’

So many thoughts! First, I LOVE your son’s name. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s name is also [name_m]Stephen[/name_m], spelled the same. But he’s my only brother, so no ready-to-go suggestions there, sorry. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are the same way about having specific criteria to meet. I totally get it.
Possible ideas, in descending order of popularity, none ranking in the top 50 in the US:
Nathan
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
[name_m]Weston[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_u]Timothy[/name_u]
[name_m]Richard[/name_m]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]

[name_u]Bradley[/name_u]
[name_m]Clayton[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]Russell[/name_m]
[name_m]Phillip[/name_m]
Phillip ranks at #505. Beyond that, they seem to get less classic and more creative/rare. Obviously, some of these are more classic than others, but they’re all familiar, and have pretty standard spellings, and fairly intuitive nicknames.
