We need some help choosing a name for Sullivan’s little brother…we very often call Sullivan “Sully” too!
We had chosen the nickname Sonny for the new baby very early and decided Sampson was the best “full name” option. Eventually we dropped Sampson, feeling it was just kind of chosen so we could “logically” call him Sonny. We started to just call him Sonny, but recently it has not felt right. Middle name is Nathaniel!
We have ruled out Harvey and August. We have (literally today) come across Walter and love it, especially love the nicknames Wally and Walt! Sullivan and Walter sound so good together but we fear we still love Sonny so much that we might call him Sonny too?
[name_u]Walter[/name_u] nn [name_m]Walt[/name_m] or [name_u]Wally[/name_u] feel like good options - and, if you decide [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] works for me, then it could work too (since it’s a general nn for boys!)
I do like @emeraldsea’s idea of [name_u]Watson[/name_u] too! (Wilfred ‘Wilf’ or ‘Sonny’ came to mind too)
At first glance I was going to vote for just [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] (Sully & [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] ), but after reading your explanation I think [name_u]Walter[/name_u] “Sonny” is perfect for you! [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] is established enough to work as a nickname for pretty much anything. The previous suggestion of [name_u]Watson[/name_u] is great as well, and much more intuitive for nn [name_u]Sonny[/name_u].
I really like [name_u]Walter[/name_u] but if you don’t want to give up [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] any name ending in son could work. [name_u]Carson[/name_u], Watson…
Have you considered [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] in the middle spot?
[name_u]Walter[/name_u] [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]? it flows well and you get the best of both worlds there! (if [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is set in stone and non-negotiable then totally understood!)
maybe a -son name to get to [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]. such as [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] or [name_u]Nelson[/name_u]. the suggested [name_u]Watson[/name_u] is also a good shout.
as a final thought, regardless of the legal name, I can see [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] working as a nickname, since it typically is personality-based. phonetically identical to [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] for me, without the caveat of it not “making sense” with the full name.
I love Walter!! Nn [name_m]Walt[/name_m] is perfection.
It’s a lot of name but [name_u]Walter[/name_u] [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] works well as a full name then you get the best of both worlds!
