[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries! We are due in [name_u]July[/name_u] with our second boy, and are having the hardest time coming up with a name we love as much as our first son, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] (nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]). We tend to like recognizable two or three syllable names with an obvious nickname. Our last name begins with L and sounds like ‘[name_m]Lev[/name_m]-it’. Any names that start with L or end with T don’t work for us. For example, we like [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], but wouldn’t use it. Middle name is undecided as well. We have considered using [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] as an honor name to my husband but it will depend on the first name.
Names we like but can’t use:
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
[name_u]Oliver[/name_u]
Names we like but don’t love:
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - we both like this one, but I don’t love it. Maybe it could grow on me. It’s the only one we both seem to like at the moment
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] - husband loves this one, I prefer [name_f]Frances[/name_f] for a girl
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - overused? Not sure if it goes well with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], dislike the nickname [name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_m]Can[/name_m]'t wait to see your suggestions! Thanks in advance!
Thank you! [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] has caught my eye a couple times recently! I really like it. Is nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u] obvious to people? Should that be a concern? [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is what we would likely call him.
Arthur-I love the idea of [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] as a brother to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. The most obvious nn is probably [name_m]Artie[/name_m], which I think is okay. It’s different if nothing else, & goes w/Theo. But just [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is great. I like the nn [name_m]Ace[/name_m] a lot.
Francis-[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is obsessed w/this name too. And I too find [name_f]Frances[/name_f] for a girl much nicer. We actually know a little boy [name_u]Francis[/name_u] who they sometimes call [name_f]Franny[/name_f]. I find it way too feminine. [name_m]Frank[/name_m]/Frankie is a little mobster for me personally, but I think it’s different & does go w/Theo.
Henry-I love it, & it’s darling w/Theodore. But it’s soooo popular. I don’t think that you’d naturally get [name_m]Hank[/name_m] unless you tried, so I wouldn’t worry about that. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Harry[/name_u]? [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_u]Harry[/name_u] are cute.
Really appreciate your thoughts on our list! I agree, I don’t love [name_m]Artie[/name_m], but [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] on it’s own with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is great. From your list I like [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] and [name_u]Julian[/name_u]. I’ll run these by my DH.
How do you feel about [name_u]Anderson[/name_u]? It means son of [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. So honours your husband. And I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Anderson[/name_u] sound brilliant? [name_u]Anderson[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] for instance is very handsome.
I hadn’t thought of [name_u]Anderson[/name_u], and it does go well with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I like it okay, just not sure it has the same appeal as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] does for us. [name_m]Can[/name_m]’t quite put my finger on it. I appreciate the suggestion though!
No worries. Names which sound like the same style as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] to me are the following
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] nickname [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] ( a personal fave of mine).
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is particularly lovely.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_u]Bennett[/name_u]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Whittaker[/name_m]
[name_u]Willoughby[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Barthelemy[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_m]Clarence[/name_m]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] ( I love this too)
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] ( my youngest name)
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]
[name_u]Julian[/name_u]
[name_m]Julius[/name_m]
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_u]Quince[/name_u]
[name_u]Royce[/name_u]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u]
Olivander
[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
Laurence is a lovely name, but since our last name starts with L it’s a no-go for us. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not a big fan of alliteration. Otherwise [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is wonderful!
We had [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] on our list with our first born, so maybe we should revisit that one. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure if I love the nicknames [name_m]Fred[/name_m]/Freddie.
Valentine recently caught my eye and I actually love it. I just can’t decide if it’s really usable as a first name? I know a woman named [name_u]Val[/name_u] and it makes me think of her. We’ve talked about using it as a middle name though. Thanks for all of your suggestions!
How about [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] or [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]? [name_m]Seb[/name_m]/Bash/Bastian and [name_u]Sully[/name_u] are fantastic nicknames. Otherwise (sorry for any repeats):
I like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] but my husband isn’t a fan, and we have a young [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] in our family already. Both great suggestions though. From your list I like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] and [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]. I talked to my husband earlier and he also likes [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u], but he asked if it was weird if the full name started with Ph and nickname started with F? I will add [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] to my list to discuss with him!
I have always loved the name [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but I can’t get my husband on board with it! I also like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] and [name_u]Julian[/name_u] from your list. I will discuss with my husband. Thank you!
We have neighbors across the street with sons named [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u]. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I hear the mother call their names together, it just makes me smile. I find it such a strong and handsome brother sibling set.
Theodore is strong, timeless, and familiar. Therefore, I’d recommend a brother name with similar characteristics. I love [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] for you. Yet, I’m not certain on [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Will[/name_m] together and I’m guessing [name_u]Liam[/name_u] doesn’t sound great with your surname.
How about [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] as a first name rather than middle? [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] & [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. [name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_u]Drew[/name_u]. SWOON!!
I don’t think it’s weird. Another option though: there’s a singer ([name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_f]Eilish[/name_f]’s brother) called [name_m]Finneas[/name_m], which is another spelling option and obviously leads to [name_u]Finn[/name_u] more easily.
We actually liked [name_u]Max[/name_u] as an option a while ago, but we have a [name_u]Max[/name_u] who lives across the street and we are friends with those neighbors, so it might be a bit strange. Possibly not a deal breaker though, as that [name_u]Max[/name_u] is quite a bit older. Something to consider for sure.
We have always liked [name_m]William[/name_m], but [name_u]Theo[/name_u] has a cousin named [name_m]William[/name_m], and I agree that [name_m]Will[/name_m] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] aren’t the best together.
Andrew as a first name has me thinking! I will talk to my husband about this. I’m not sure how I feel about having a ‘junior’, as I’ve honestly never really considered it. Thanks for your suggestions!
