Hello everyone,

We are trying to find a name for our boy arriving late spring. Our daughter’s name is [name_f]Willow.
We would like to find a name that has meaning, goes with [name_f]Willow[/name_f], shortened to a cute nickname (or no nickname) and is not too popular.

Names on the short list:

[name_m]Lucian[/name_m] (pronounced: Loo-shun): I love this name right now. If he was born today I would be fighting for this name. I like the nickname [name_u]Lou[/name_u] if it comes up.

[name_u]Everett[/name_u]: family name. I like it, but I don’t know if I can see my son named this for some reason. I don’t know if I like the nickname Ev or [name_u]Ever[/name_u].

[name_m]Conall[/name_m]: my husband’s choice. He likes that it is Irish and means strong wolf. I don’t like the name [name_m]Connor[/name_m] because of past associations. I don’t know if the [name_u]Con[/name_u]- beginning is too close for me. Also, [name_u]Con[/name_u]-vict.

[name_u]Oberon[/name_u]: nickname [name_m]Obi[/name_m]. I feel like this is a guilty pleasure, but I would consider this name.

[name_m]Lonan[/name_m]- for some reason I feel like this is feminine
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]- means berry tree, so goes with the tree theme

I just wanted to pop in and say [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] doesn’t have to be [name_m]Len[/name_m]/[name_m]Lenny[/name_m], he could be Nox. (which is a lot cooler in my opinion.)

Thank you everyone for your replies! I meant to respond sooner. You definitely brought some of the names I have loved for a long time back to the table.

[name_m]Lucian[/name_m] is now off of the list because my husband vetoed it and other people comparing it to [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] (even though we are not religious at all). I still love it, but I guess it is not meant to be.

Our new list:

[name_m]Edwin[/name_m] (no family connection, just like it)
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] (family name)
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] (could call him [name_m]Griffy[/name_m] as a nickname- my husbands favorite baseball player)
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (nature name/old man name, becoming more popular, but not too popular in our area)
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] (nature name, means forest, goes with [name_f]Willow[/name_f], without being another tree)

I still like [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], but my husband isn’t sold yet.

I feel like our list shrinks and then grows again!

[name_f]Do[/name_f] any of these flow with our last name? Or can any be taken off due to not flowing well?

Perhaps consider [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_u]Reed[/name_u] (means nature), or [name_u]Orion[/name_u]

From your new shortlist, I like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] best with [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. My next favourite would be [name_m]Edwin[/name_m].

I also like Connall (nn. [name_u]Cal[/name_u], if you don’t like the [name_u]Con[/name_u] association), [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] (nn. [name_u]Lex[/name_u] or Nox if you don’t like [name_m]Len[/name_m]) and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]. I like [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], too,ut [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] Mc_ might be a bit much.

[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]'s a great name. It’s hard to tell whether the fs are too much without hearing your last name, but it sounds fine with the Mc_ffy names I can think of. It might not work if your surname were McIffeny or something, though.

If you fall in love with Everett, I do like the idea of using a family name.

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are perfect together! Both spunky names that are easy to say together. I also love [name_m]Silas[/name_m] written down, it’s pretty hipster these days and isn’t too popular.

My favorite is [name_m]Silas[/name_m], second favorite [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. I don’t think [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is too many ffs. Least favorite is [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] since I think of it as being too trendy, but that’s just me. I also like [name_u]Elon[/name_u] from your old long list. Rowan or Ronan would be cute too.

I love [name_u]Everett[/name_u] from your main list and [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] from your second. They would all go great with the middle names too, and they’re not overused (at least I don’t know anybody with these names).

If you want a twist on [name_u]Everett[/name_u], I love the name [name_u]Everest[/name_u] and it would go with the nature theme. Like a pp, [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] would be a great nickname!
