I am struggling to find one I love.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance… x
Perhaps you could say a little about why you chose [name]Estee[/name] and [name]Jemima[/name], and what factors are important to you in choosing a name, so we have a better chance of figuring out what you might like for DD3.
So sorry! [name]Don[/name]'t know how it all works on here.
Didn’t want to blather on and give you all a life story too much.
Well, I am from the UK. My girls are 12 and 2 and each represent a different bit of my taste probably:
[name]Jemima[/name]- I love elegant names with maybe a bit of old-fashioned retro fun.
[name]Estee[/name]- There is an acute accent on the first E but didn’t know how to do one on here. Haha. I love French names, also Italian, but like to steer clear of the very most popular ones.I think [name]Estee[/name] has the beauty that French names seem to hold for me, but has a bit of an edge- aka. isn’t too frilly.
Other names we were considering for her were: [name]Dulcie[/name] (on the list again probably), [name]Cosima[/name] (not on the list since [name]Claudia[/name] Schiffer used it) and [name]Eugenie[/name].
I love nicknames too; we call [name]Jemima[/name] [name]Mima[/name]!
[name]Hope[/name] this makes suggestions a bit easier, if there is any which come to mind that is.
x
Hmm…in some ways [name]Jemima[/name] and Est”e seem like very different styles to me, but both have what I would describe as something of a “quirky vintage” appeal to them. So I would try to pair them with another name that has similar connotations.

[name]Jemima[/name], Est”e, and [name]Agnes[/name]
Some great suggestions! And nice names in consideration. Hmm. A few thoughts.
[name]Dulcie[/name]: works well enough. I like the sound, and the sweet meaning (see below for more thoughts on that). I do think another French or French-ish name kind of “leaves [name]Jemima[/name] out”, if that matters to you.
[name]Cosima[/name]: I know it’s off the list, but in some ways it’s a really good match: of different (Greek) origins than [name]Jemima[/name] (Biblical) and [name]Estee[/name] (French), it still captures some feeling from them. The only thing is that three-letter overlap between it and [name]Jemima[/name] is a little odd, though I know the vowels are pronounced differently. But it’s off your list.
[name]Eugenie[/name]: Nice, but again, the “French” thing if you care. And the same first letter as [name]Estee[/name], although the zh sound kind of ties into [name]Jemima[/name]'s J for some balance. These things are all fine in the end, but are considerations.
I especially love [name]Noemie[/name] for you which the pp suggested. It’s French, but ties in well to [name]Jemima[/name]. [name]Jemima[/name] is a Biblical name which I think is rendered the same in English and French (maybe prn is different, but probably not spelling), [name]Estee[/name] is a French rendition of [name]Esther[/name] and [name]Noemi[/name] is a French rendition of [name]Naomi[/name]. So you’re hitting a trend (you would with [name]Naomi[/name], too). Either name falls in that “vintage” category to my ear, and the meaning of [name]Naomi[/name] is “pleasant/delightful” in a way related to “sweet”, so you tie into [name]Dulcie[/name] that way. [name]Noemie[/name] [name]Dulcie[/name] is a nice combo to my ear.
[name]Margaux[/name]/[name]Margo[/name] I also like…like the relation of these versions of [name]Margaret[/name] to meaning pearl while [name]Estee[/name] relates to star and [name]Jemima[/name] means dove. All lovely nouns for the girls!
All best as you decide!
I will suggest a few boys names

[name]Jemima[/name], Est”e, and [name]Walter[/name]
Wow I’m overwhelmed.
So many I have never thought of. I think maybe my last lists were a little conservative. Haha!
Okay so cressida is different styles a bad thing? :S I guess I am used to them together, but I love them as a pair. I think so used to them together that I can’t see another name ever fitting alongside. you know? Anyway, rambling…
Wow. Of your suggestions, I liked a lot, but the ones I can imagine calling a child-
Lo”e, Cl”lie, [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Idony[/name], [name]Ottilie[/name], [name]Noemie[/name]
Ailith- how is this pronounced? I like how it looks but obviously can’t judge properly whilst still ignorant of prn.!
Of that list, after musing them aloud I especially love Lo”e,[name]Ottilie[/name] and [name]Noemie[/name].
I only disclude a couple of the others because: [name]Mabel[/name]- starts with M and we call [name]Jemima[/name] [name]Mima[/name] most of the time.[name]Harriet[/name]- know a lot of little Harriets and want something a little more unusual.
thanks so much, you got a real handle on my taste
jesba, Thanks for the deeper evaluation of the suggestions. really helped. Thinking about the ‘ties’ between names like that is new to me, and you are right. I need a name which fits snugly to each other name. [name]Noemie[/name] does that! [name]Eugenie[/name] is too French AND too many Es, you’re right. And I will consider [name]Cosima[/name] again after reading that. Hmmm, trying to work out why I am so ambivalent about the name. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I go right off it…
rollo- Thank you. It’s always lovely to get compliments on your kids’ names, as i’m sure you know. i’m tickled pink. and phew boys names too (find them much harder!)
Well, I love [name]Rupert[/name] and also [name]Louis[/name], but the latter is a bit too often used for me to want to use.
In fact, I like nearly all those names but I don’t [name]LOVE[/name] them. I find it so hard to find a boys’ name which feels sparky and unique. I probably like more feminine boys’ names like [name]Sasha[/name] and [name]Caspar[/name] and [name]Ignatius[/name]…if that helps? Sorry I am just terrible with boys names!
The ideal would be something which feels ‘dashing’ but maybe has the possibility of a more casual nickname. But at this point, anything a little different will excite me.
cressida- WOW. So many ideas. [name]Will[/name] give you literally a list of those I love. There are quite a few!
[name]Caspar[/name], [name]Sylvester[/name] (never even thought of this one), [name]Ansel[/name], [name]Blaise[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Bram[/name], [name]Walter[/name].
All these feel quirky and cool. Is [name]Bram[/name] a full name? Have never heard him before!
[name]Sylvester[/name]- love but do you think there’s a nickname which works?
Thank you all so much.
Any more ideas/favourites of those so far are welcome. I will keep posting anyway I am sure, since I’m off work now and have many heavy hours to wile away. Pheeeeeeow! X
I’m glad that you liked so many! I had a lot of fun trying to think of names that would go with your sibset. I agree that Lo”e, [name]Ottilie[/name], and [name]Noemie[/name] all work particularly well with [name]Jemima[/name] and Est”e.
The only Ailith I ever met pronounced it EYE-lith (with the second syllable sounding just like the second syllable of [name]Lilith[/name]), but I think there might be other valid ways of saying this name, too.
[name]Bram[/name] was originally a nickname for [name]Abraham[/name] (as in the case of [name]Bram[/name] Stoker, the author of Dracula), but it’s also given as a name in its own right. I think it’s used pretty often in [name]Holland[/name] these days. Personally, I like both [name]Abraham[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name] and just [name]Bram[/name].
The traditional nickname for [name]Sylvester[/name] seems to be [name]Sly[/name], but I’ve heard of people using [name]Sy[/name] (pronounced like “sigh”), too.
Some other names friends suggested to me today: [name]Tamar[/name], [name]Dorothy[/name], [name]Arabelle[/name], [name]Orlaith[/name]. And for boys [name]Wilbur[/name], [name]Linus[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Melchior[/name].
What do you think of any of these?
My list so far is basically:
[name]Bram[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name]
[name]Caspar[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
Melchio
[name]Rupert[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Pascal[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Sabine[/name]
[name]Tamar[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Arabelle[/name]
[name]Orlaith[/name]
[name]Noemie[/name]
[name]Cosima[/name]
Lo”e
[name]Idony[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Eugenie[/name]
[name]Cornelia[/name] ([name]Nell[/name]/[name]Cora[/name])
[name]Cordia[/name]
[name]Cosima[/name]
I think that’s the lot. Pheew this is exhilarating.
About two days ago I had about two un-enthusing ideas!
X
[name]Glad[/name] my thoughts and those of others were helpful to get your list going!
I do think [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]Estee[/name] sound nice together by the way – there is the Biblical thing, and those long vowels are great as is the element of repeated sounds…which plenty of the names you like share ; D!
Of the boys’ options many work fine but [name]Bram[/name] and [name]Pascal[/name] really stick out to me – [name]Bram[/name] a very English (I think?) take on Biblical [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Pascal[/name] a French take on the holiday of [name]Easter[/name].
[name]Caspar[/name] and [name]Melchior[/name] work by the Biblical thing again (sort of…I think they’re not named, but associated with Biblical traditions, like [name]Pascal[/name] in a way), and any of the names really offers something different.
[name]Caspar[/name] and [name]Pascal[/name] both have a “repeated sound/letter” like [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]Estee[/name], maybe that helps them stand out?
I continue to really love [name]Noemie[/name] or [name]Naomi[/name] for a girl for you, but [name]Tabitha[/name] and [name]Tamar[/name] hit the Biblical notes (and [name]Tamar[/name] has rare variant Tamarix which I love, and a repeated letter/sound!), and each one you’re considering is pleasant enough.
[name]Tamar[/name] hits the “nice noun” meaning again – dove, star, and palm – [name]Dorothy[/name] of all things somehow really works just by sound alone, I think…[name]Jemima[/name], [name]Estee[/name], and [name]Dorothy[/name] – I like it! Maybe it’s the repeat letter/sound : D!
Continued best wishes!
I suggest you read the history of [name]Tamar[/name] in [name]Genesis[/name], it is certainly different.
[name]Dorothy[/name] I have just been to a Wiggles concert and who was popular you ask? Well [name]Dorothy[/name] the Dinosaur of course, so this one would not work for me.
[name]Arabelle[/name] now this is a beautiful name and I just love [name]Arabella[/name] I think that this has to be the most impressive ‘look at me’ name. I see an [name]Arabella[/name] as supremely self confident and very, very feminine.
[name]Orlaith[/name] now despite years as a name nerd I haven’t heard of this name, after checking it out it seems that there are derivatives like [name]Orla[/name] of Gaelic origin. I would prefer [name]Orla[/name] as it seems to echo the very popular [name]Isla[/name].
[name]Wilbur[/name] now I love the nn of [name]Will[/name] and I think that [name]William[/name] will take a rise in popularity once [name]Prince[/name] [name]William[/name] marries so [name]Wilbur[/name] and [name]Wilfred[/name] would be alternatives but I prefer [name]Wilson[/name] to either.
[name]Linus[/name] well he is a really cute character in the [name]Charlie[/name] [name]Brown[/name] series see this very lovely youtube item from [name]Linus[/name] Linus Christmas Monologue - YouTube
[name]Rowan[/name] now [name]Rowan[/name] has gone to the girls, so I would suggest [name]Ronan[/name] I just love the name.
[name]Melchior[/name] is one of the three Wise Men who came to visit [name]Christ[/name] in the stable, so this would be a difficult name to live up to.
From your boys list I like the following:
Points out of 10 with 10 being the best
[name]Caspar[/name] 3/10 love [name]Jasper[/name] 9/10
[name]Rupert[/name] one of my faves 9.5/10
[name]Leopold[/name] 5/10
[name]Pascal[/name] 5/10
[name]Walter[/name] 6.5/10
[name]Delphine[/name] 8/10
[name]Sabine[/name] 8/10
[name]Tabitha[/name] 6/10
[name]Arabelle[/name] 7/10 [name]Arabella[/name] 8/10
[name]Orla[/name] 3/10
[name]Noemie[/name] 5/10
[name]Ottilie[/name] 5/10
[name]Eugenie[/name] 6/10
[name]Cornelia[/name] 7/10
I think [name]Calista[/name] is beautiful 7.5/10
Possible combos
[name]Leopold[/name] [name]Constantine[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Walter[/name] [name]Pascal[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Reid[/name]

That is true about the Biblical story of [name]Tamar[/name], by the way…there are actually two of them, and both are “different” although not up there in unfortunate-ness with [name]Jezebel[/name] or [name]Delilah[/name] or [name]Salome[/name], I would say : D. This is true of lots of women’s names in the Bible, really…and even the men. [name]David[/name], you know, ordered a man to the battlefront so he could marry his resultant widow, but it didn’t hold the name back, probably in part of course because he was so favored by God…and did repent (if I’m remembering right, it’s been a while). [name]Both[/name] Tamars are presented as sympathetic/admirable characters even though one of them is clearly “crafty” and the other is a really tragic victim…[name]Sabine[/name] hits that note too, by the way, as does [name]Dinah[/name] if you were to consider that lovely Biblical name.
[name]Kezia/name is a lovely biblical name with a less loaded story whose name means cassia (another pretty noun, and a tree meaning like [name]Tamar[/name]). [name]Kezia[/name] or [name]Cassia[/name] could work with [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]Estee[/name]. [name]Kezia[/name] keeps the long vowel thing going. [name]Cassia[/name] maybe sounds more balanced since [name]Kezia[/name] kind of feels a little like [name]Jemima[/name].
No idea about [name]Dorothy[/name] the dinosaur! Ha! [name]Just[/name] when that name got over the [name]Wizard[/name] of [name]Oz[/name], I thought : D.
Your daughters have such beautiful names, and I especially like the nickname [name]Mima[/name].
A boy name that I think would be perfect for you is [name]Cyrus[/name]. It’s not used very often and the nickname [name]Cy[/name] is adorable.
I hope this helps you! Good luck!
Saw the name [name]Delphine[/name] on your girls list! I think it fits beautifully with [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]Estee[/name]! But what i really wanted to suggest was the boys name Delphis. From what i’ve read so far it seems to fit the bill pretty well. Not uber masculine sounding - more towards the feminine sound - and has a fun more casual nickname [name]Dell[/name]!
Anyways, just my two cents…hope this helps!
I just have to say I am in love with your taste/style and can’t wait to go over your lists after I’ve had some sleep!
Oooh wow I have some more advisors. Your suggestions/comments are all very knowledgeable it seems too!
Okay well, in terms of comments about the meaning of names, I have always thought there was a slight double standard. Obviously, names like [name]Jezabel[/name] and [name]Lolita[/name] are inappropriate. However, I have no problem with calling a child a name with a tragic or grand meaning; I think it’s exciting and romantic to hear your name’s story, whatever it be. Look at [name]Juliet[/name] or [name]Eloise[/name]!
Anyway, that is very much a personal thing and I do appreciate the debate anyway rollo, and your honesty. Have to say in advance though, [name]Calista[/name] will not be going on the list. I always feel like i want to like it, but it is linked forever in my mind to ‘blister.’ Uhoh.
So, after reading the comments I have taken [name]Dorothy[/name] off the list. Wise decision I think. [name]Noemie[/name] is also gone (sorry to jesba who i think loved that one! ha! I just think it would be constantly prn. and spelled as [name]Naomi[/name])
Also [name]Linus[/name]; I know the cartoon but I felt perhaps it was time to move poor [name]Linus[/name] away from his Peanuts curse! Perhaps not. I have also taken your advice on [name]Rowan[/name]; I know a boy [name]Rowan[/name] so perhaps that has biased me in thinking it is not a burden for a little boy to bear. [name]Caspar[/name] similarly, I think doesn’t fit right with the girls’ names…
[name]Bram[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name]
[name]Melchior[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Pascal[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
([name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] are on my maybe list. I like them, but am not sure how much yet! My head is turning them over. Haha)
Delphis
[name]Cyrus[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] both these two!
Delphis a little bit more at the moment (got a fateful little shiver when I heard it) but they are both on the list. Thanks to chandler and asophie1!
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Sabine[/name]
Tamarix (I [name]LOVE[/name] this suggestion so much jesba and have never heard it anywhere! and like the nickname [name]Mari[/name] but maybe its a bit close to [name]Mima[/name]…?)
[name]Arabelle[/name] ([name]Ally[/name])
[name]Idony[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Eugenie[/name]
[name]Cornelia[/name] ([name]Nell[/name])
[name]Cosima[/name]
It’s so funny that [name]Keziah[/name] was suggested as it was on the list for [name]Jemima[/name], but I think now having sisters [name]Jemima[/name] AND [name]Keziah[/name] is a bit too verbatum Biblical. [name]Shame[/name]!
Anyway, I am relishing all these suggestions so feel free to keep with them.
Of the combos rollo, I especially loved
[name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name] (Okay so i switched it around)
[name]Ottilie[/name] [name]Sabine[/name]
and for the boys:
[name]Walter[/name] [name]Pascal[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name] [name]George[/name] (switched again!)
[name]Sylvie[/name] I love too btw- but it’s [name]Jemima[/name]'s middle name. ([name]Jemima[/name] [name]Sylvie[/name] and [name]Estee[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name]. So want to use [name]Cordelia[/name] as a first name this time. Kicking myself for using it; my family all just say ‘Use it again. doesn’t matter’ but the idea still doesn’t sit right)
Thanks all of you! Progress is happening!
love this topic!! all these gorgeous names
[name]Just[/name] wanted to suggest [name]Solange[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name] - they’re my favourite french names, though I think [name]Delphine[/name] may have already been suggested.
Boys names are so difficult! I’ve been having trouble too. When I was pregnant with my son, I was really into foreign names, The French ones were [name]Raoul[/name] - I still love it so so much, and [name]Armand[/name]. Other names I liked (not french): [name]Reuben[/name] [name]Rolf[/name] [name]Rasmus[/name] [name]Otto[/name] & [name]Magnus[/name]
Oops forgot to say, of the boys names my frontrunners are:
[name]Bram[/name], Delphis,
Thanks for all the great feedback we love to know if we are on track with the names that we are suggesting. I am pleased that there were some suggestions of mine that were helpful.
No, I wouldn’t repeat [name]Cordelia[/name] again I think the girls all need their own special combos.
Here are a few more names up for consideration.
I could not find a girl’s name Tamarix, but I could find a pretty pink flowering tree of that name.
I think that [name]Tamsin[/name] is similar, underused and likeable.
For the boys
Strong Latin names
