Hi all,
I’m due with baby #2 in a couple of weeks and my husband and I are still struggling. We have a 2 y/o daughter, Finley Josephine, and I’m having a hard time figuring out names that a) sound good with Finley and b) I actually like. She probably has the most masculine-sounding name we had ever considered, but we’re not really into girl names for boys, stylistically.
Our current top choices are:
Girl:
Rhiannon Violet
Madrigal Kate
(we also love Sadie, Daisy, Georgia, and Layla – but would those clash with Finley?)
Boy:
Conan Benjamin
Lucas River
Eliot Nathan (worried that this would be easily misspelled)
Feedback and/or new ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I love [name_m]Conan[/name_m] with [name_u]Finley[/name_u]. I might always lead with [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] with one T, it would get misspelled sometimes.

I actually think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], and [name_f]Layla[/name_f] go perfectly with [name_u]Finley[/name_u]! They’re all youthful, bright, and spunky and pretty similar in popularity - whereas [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] and especially [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] are much more rare.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites of your girl name options are [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], and [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]!
For boys, I love [name_m]Conan[/name_m] and [name_u]Eliot[/name_u], in that order! With [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] you are probably going to have to specify spelling often, but no matter what spelling of the name you pick that will be the case! [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] are almost exactly tied for the most common spellings, with [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] a bit behind.

I think my favorites from your list are [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy or [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] for a girl. I also think [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] would work beautifully with [name_u]Finley[/name_u]! [name_m]Conan[/name_m] [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] would be my second choice for a boy – I agree [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] would be misspelled often.
Congrats on #2!!!
IMO, [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] and [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] go better with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] so perhaps make them middles?
I think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] and [name_f]Layla[/name_f] go best with [name_u]Finley[/name_u] as firsts.
A few other girl suggestions: [name_m]Faolan[/name_m], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] so maybe: [name_m]Faolan[/name_m] [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]?
*Also note: the name [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] will be potentially linked to the movie Encanto.
Boys: Definitely [name_m]Conan[/name_m] or [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] if you’re worried about [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] being misspelled. I would naturally spell it [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] I think.
A few boy suggestions: [name_u]Harlan[/name_u], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
Hopefully this helps
I think all of your boy names work equally well with [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] preference would be [name_u]Eliot[/name_u]. I agree with other commenters that you’d take to specify spelling regardless, so if you just get used to saying, “Eliot, one L, one T”, it’ll be simple. There are way more complicated or difficult names to spell these days.
I spell my kids’ names all the time just for the sake of clarity, even though they’re all names with one predominant spelling.
Your girl names are tougher, I think. It seems like maybe your general style is “light, sweet, casual”. Maybe even “blue jean baby names” (my favorite ever Nameberry list!). [name_u]Finley[/name_u] mostly fits on there, with the added caveat of being unisex surname, which most of the girl names you like aren’t. And I would leave it at that and give you suggestions that I think walk the line between the two… except that your top ideas at the moment are big names. Heavy. Image-dense. [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] and [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f]. [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] maybe has a Celtic flair in common with [name_u]Finley[/name_u]? But [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] is another name entirely.
So do I bark up the original tree with [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], or do I come up with heavy word names and mythology names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] we join the two styles with matching initials, perhaps?
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] + [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] = [name_f]Freya[/name_f], perhaps? [name_u]Finley[/name_u] + [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] = [name_u]Fern[/name_u] or [name_u]Fable[/name_u], maybe? I like those. I think they work. But I’m going to head back to my comfort zone in blue jean/Celtic names:
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_u]Carden[/name_u]
[name_u]Gabby[/name_u]
[name_u]Georgie[/name_u]
[name_u]Jo[/name_u]
[name_u]Josie[/name_u]
[name_u]Laney[/name_u]
[name_f]Lizzy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maddy[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Zibby[/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] is great! It has a ruggedness that fits with [name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is distinctive too and that makes it work !!
I think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Layla[/name_f] work too! They have a fresh, bubbly vibe that fit with [name_u]Finley[/name_u]! [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] ‘Georgie’ would be cool.
[name_u]Eliot[/name_u] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] is great too - [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] or [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] feel more familiar in terms of spelling, but [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] has the cool, literary vibe. I love the sounds of this.
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_u]River[/name_u] is a solid and charming choice! I think [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] would be great with [name_u]Finley[/name_u] too
[name_m]Conan[/name_m] [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] is pretty cool and unexpected - I like it
Over all, [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] and [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] are my faves
A few other ideas:
[name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_f]Zoey[/name_f]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]
[name_u]Callum[/name_u]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u]
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u]
[name_u]Jasper[/name_u]
Out of your two girl choices [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] is my favorite with [name_u]Finley[/name_u]! [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] seems too different stylistically with [name_u]Finley[/name_u] imo.
For suggestions I’m going to second [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]! It feels similar in style to [name_u]Finley[/name_u] but more feminine.
Other suggestions:
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] “Emmie”
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
For your boy choices I really like [name_u]Eliot[/name_u]! I have a common name with a different spelling and it hasn’t been much of a hassle at all.
Other suggestions:
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Callum[/name_u]
[name_u]Brooks[/name_u]
[name_u]Archer[/name_u]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
