Now that I’m thinking of using [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] as a first name I’m wondering what I would name a brother to [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. Being that [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is very uncommon I want to have names that would compliment each other. I don’t necessary want them to be matchy, but I do want them to go well together. My three favorite names are [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]. I’m not looking to throw them away just yet. I still want to use them, but I want names that go with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] also. I probably won’t use [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] in the first name spot because I have one too many TVD/The Originals character names as favorites. It would be pretty obvious in the first name spot.
One name I think might fit and is already on my list is [name_m]Conrad[/name_m].
With [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], you can’t just pair it with any old name. My suggestions are going to be pretty colorful, but I do think [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] sounds nice too.
[name_m]Godfrey[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Armand[/name_m] (if you don’t mind matching first initial)
[name_m]Rolf[/name_m]
[name_m]Abelard[/name_m]
[name_m]Guy[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
[name_u]Barrett[/name_u]
[name_m]Lambert[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnabus[/name_m]
I do like [name_m]Godfrey[/name_m], but it reminds me of another name that I like(Godric) where there is a distinctive God sound. I’m not religious in any way and I worry about the connections.
I love [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]. I’ve been told that it’s over the top, but I still love it. Definitely a possibility.
I like [name_m]Barnabus[/name_m], but not the nickname [name_m]Barney[/name_m]. I was a huge [name_m]Barney[/name_m] fan when I was a little kid and my family doesn’t miss a opportunity to remind me.
I don’t mind matching initials as long as the name doesn’t sound similar.
When used as a portion of a name, ‘God-’ is usually an abbreviation of ‘good’. I like [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] w/[name_m]Alaric[/name_m], but Godric or [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] or [name_m]Maximo[/name_m] or [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] are also great!
@ashleyjuliette
I like [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]. [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] have been on my mind lately, but I"m not sure if I love them quite enough to use.
@mischa
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] is on my list, but I worried that it might be too mainstream with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. Maybe the medieval spelling [name_m]Jolyon[/name_m] would fit better?
I love [name_m]Walter[/name_m]. I also like [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and [name_m]Cassius[/name_m]
@rkrd
Thank you for that tidbit. I wasn’t aware of it.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Perseus[/name_m], but always worry that it might be a bit too much as a first name.
@alexa400
I thought of [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] at first, but I don’t like how it has the same ‘al’ sound.
[name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] is interesting. I think people might mistake it for [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] though.
I have [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] on my list (with a number of other ic or c heavy names) and I’d “pair” it with [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] or [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]. [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] might be good for you as it would give you an easy nn of [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. ([name_m]Vincent[/name_m] = [name_m]Vince[/name_m] and [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] = [name_m]Leon[/name_m] for me). What’s cool is that all nn’ would be easy to recognize stand alone names which is another nice link between them.
Funny enough I’ve never even thought about using [name_m]Leon[/name_m] for [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]. I can tolerate [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but I absolutely love [name_m]Leon[/name_m]. It’s in the middle name territory to me right now because of the chance that it could be mistaken for [name_m]Leo[/name_m].
I don’t like [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m], but I do like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]. I’m not sure about siblings with names that both end in -rik though.
I just have one suggestion, [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]. Has a similar old german feel to [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] and a variant of [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], which I see is a middle name on your list. I would love to meet brothers named [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] and [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]!
@averelladavina
Oddly enough while I do like [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] I can’t stand [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]. It’s the -thias sound that bothers me the most.
