I am due with baby boy #2 in about a month. Older brother [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] (called [name_u]Max[/name_u] 85% of time) will be 2 when the babe is born. We have been over and over baby boy names and need some advise. Our short list that we have been working off of is:
My number one favorite is [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and my husband agrees that he could really love it, but the trouble I run into is… although I know [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a strong name on it’s own, I am having a hard time getting over the fact that our [name_u]Max[/name_u] has a longer form name ([name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]). While we really don’t use his long name that often, I love that he has the option should he ever choose to use it.
That being said, we have gone over and over the options of a longer form name for [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and I haven’t fallen in love with one.
Here is what we have thought of:
I should also mention that the baby’s middle name will be [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] I need to worry about finding a longer name or is [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] ([name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]) okay together? Should we go back to the drawing board?
Genuinely excited for you, @amberlee17 – congratulations!
[name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a perfect pair.
My favorite long forms for you: [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] {and} [name_u]Leland[/name_u], [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m], [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], [name_m]Leroy[/name_m].
It’s ideal but not essential for both names to have a longer form.
[name_u]Gus[/name_u] is another perfect complement for [name_u]Max[/name_u] … [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] {and} [name_u]August[/name_u].
Too funny- we have the EXACT same problem with [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. We love love love it- but the part of me that needs a “[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] Name” couldn’t handle just doing [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. We thought about [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]- but feel it’s too connected to DiCaprio- personally for us. In the end- we took it off our list because we couldn’t figure it out- but we do [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it
Too funny the above poster said [name_u]August[/name_u]- as that’s our front runner- with either [name_m]Augie[/name_m] or [name_u]Gus[/name_u] as the NN.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_u]Gus[/name_u], or [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_m]Augie[/name_m]
Before I even read your whole post I thought [name_m]Leo[/name_m] went perfectly with [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], I didn’t even think about it needing a longer form. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is strong enoug as a stand alone name.
I say go for the name you love! [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] both have two syllables which makes [name_m]Leo[/name_m] feel more proper to me.
I think they make a great pair. Plus, with [name_m]Edward[/name_m] in the middle, [name_m]Leo[/name_m] has a very formal option if he wanted it.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] your naming style! Good luck.
I love [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], both of those are on our list for baby #3. [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is our top pick! But, for you [name_m]Leo[/name_m] really seems perfect! I get what you mean about the longer form, but [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] make a fantastic sibset. I wouldn’t worry about the longer form unless there’s one you love.
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] work so well together !
I wouldn’t necessarily go for a longer version (although [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] would have my vote in that case), especially if you use [name_m]Edward[/name_m] as a middle name : [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is formal enough as a name (with [name_m]Edward[/name_m]'s beautiful classicism) that your little one wouldn’t have to worry !!!
Congratulations on the pregnancy and the very best of luck for what lies ahead !
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is very handsome- a very strong name. I think it is fine with [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]- they are both two syllables, and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a nice strong standalone. It has the same strong yet friendly feel that [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] does- I love it. I feel like any longer version is too formal with [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]. Overall, [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] has the longer name out of the two anyway.
While I love the name [name_m]Edison[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_m]Edison[/name_m] are a bit too Beatles- especially considering that [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Edison[/name_m] was a serial killer (fantastic song though- one of my favourites). [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is fantastic though!
