Silas Man-is has too much S for me. Emmett too much M. I’m finding I’m tripping over Silas and Emmett. Actually I voted for Isaac and now I can’t say it as well with Man-is as I would like.
Malcolm is nice but I’m not a fan of alliterative names (my siblings who have the double letter love it - and I get it does automatically make the name smarter sounding or at a least more zippy!). I don’t love how the M of the ending of Malcolm is the same starting letter of last name, but that’s my obsessiveness re names.
Forest feels too different to other names which while not super common, are more classic or classically sounded (and has same stumble with pronunciation). I like a bit of equity between names.
I still think Isaac is the best - it’s a great name!! - but I hope this isn’t an off putting comment - there might be another name out there for you to at least have in pocket? I would probably use a three or four syllable so some time to get to “Mantis” - eg Everett; Christopher (nn Kit) or Sebastian (maybe too close to Benton?), or not have any M’s or S’s at/towards end of the name (Jasper works because S in middle and the ER sound lets us get ready to say “Mantis”).
Agree with almost all of this! Although I love a fn/ln alliteration, i dont love it when ending sound runs into beginning sound. [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] gets my vote as well!
@EloiseT I appreciate your thoroughness and no, it’s not off putting at all. I’ve had similar thoughts about all of these names. Here are my problems or criteria or however you want to put it.
No N ending names. I actually currently have 3 children with an accidental N ending theme going: [name_m]Benton[/name_m] [name_m]Grover[/name_m], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I also have N ending first names, but like I said, it was totally by accident that we created this theme and we chose Raven’s name simply to stick to the theme, not because we loved the name [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. I won’t do that again.
I have to actually like the name and not choose it simply because it fits with the others. This is similar to 1, but it also applies to what you were saying about [name_u]Forest[/name_u] not seeming to fit with the others. I’m a name nerd. I get wanting sibsets to go together, but in reality I just want to name my kids names I genuinely enjoy saying over and over again.
Man-is is difficult. It’s caused us to veto so many great names over the years and I’m just kinda over it. A kid being named [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] Man-is or [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] Man-is or even [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Man-is isn’t the worst thing in the world to me anymore whereas used to I would not have considered these names that I love. I’ve become a lot less picky over the years over things like that, but I do understand where you’re coming from.
I study numerology and not only do I have to genuinely like a name, but also the numerologic personality that comes with it. That’s not easy to find! There are lots of names out there that I like, but I know the personality that comes with it wouldn’t fit well into our family or it wouldn’t serve the child well.
I’d prefer not to have super popular names. I’ve actually become a lot more lax about this one than I once was. Once upon a time I never would have considered [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] or [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. Top 500 was too popular for me. Now I’d prefer to stay away from top 100 and names like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] that have been popular for generations.
I’d prefer not to repeat initials. So no A, B, J, or R. [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] isn’t here yet, but we’re TTC and if it’s a boy he’ll definitely be [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] [name_u]Charles[/name_u]. We’d love to have up to 3 more kids hence why I’m still on the search.
I’d like it to have a nice meaning and if not, a nice history like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] being Scottish also helps his lack of nice meaning. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband has a lot a Scots-Irish heritage and he really likes this name.
Anyway, all this is just to kinda explain my dilemmas with boy names mainly. And while I do like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], he’s probably last on my personal favorite list. But I love the meaning and he’s got a great personality, so he stays for now! Thanks for your input!
I went with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] but [name_m]Silas[/name_m] or [name_u]Forest[/name_u] would work well too!
I went with [name_u]Forest[/name_u] because it fits better with [name_m]Benton[/name_m] and [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]. I am not a fan of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], and I felt like [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] did not flow well with your last name. [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] is not a favorite of mine, I do like the [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] spelling better.
[name_u]Forest[/name_u] [name_u]Clyde[/name_u] is dreamy!! Earthy and charming! [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Luther[/name_m] would be my second pick - rugged, strong and cool
That makes sense - and I agree, I have said a fair few times in here that name should always take precedence over coherence/“perfect” sibset as most of a child’s life is as their own person (without introducing their siblings) so it can become a parent’s project to get the names all in sync. Having said that, I do think some equity is good - to take an extreme eg, I wouldn’t call twins [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_u]Coast[/name_u], just because I think it would affect (among other things at play) their relational dynamic, identities, and outcomes in undesirable/unnecessary ways. Anyway, having just said it doesn’t matter, I think [name_u]Forest[/name_u] (or Forrest) works well with the rest of the set, now I know/remember it! But still think three or four syllables generally easier to say with your last name esp when S’s and M’s involved, but obv not my call! Good luck!
