Building a sibset

I’ve been going through my lists again (really, this happens all the time) and I was thinking about what names I might pair together.

My other thought is what names work with my current children, [name]Arabella[/name] (nn [name]Bella[/name]) and [name]Jude[/name]. I want to stick with a similar style but sometimes I feel like I don’t even know what direction my style is going. Anyway, here’s my short list now (which I hope will become a bit shorter with your help :D):

[name]Alice[/name]
Annabeth
[name]Briony[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Cecelia[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Faye[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]

[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Drake[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Laurence[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Reed[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]

Is there any particular style that’s in this list? Any suggestions of names that I’ve overlooked that might fit into my list better than some of the names that are there now? Any stand out pairings that you can see (doesn’t matter if you think a pair of names on my list work or if there is a name not on the list that would work with one that is)?

As always, I look forward to your input and thanks in advance!

Here are my thoughts on your current list:
[name]Alice[/name] - not a good fit with [name]Arabella[/name]
Annabeth - again, not good with [name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Briony[/name] - ok
[name]Catherine[/name] - a little plain with [name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Cecelia[/name] - just don’t care for it, but works ok
[name]Emilia[/name] - not my taste, but works
[name]Faye[/name] - good for the middle only
[name]Harper[/name] - doesn’t work well with [name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Hermione[/name] - ok
[name]Lyra[/name] - ok
[name]Nora[/name] - a little plain with [name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] - not my taste, but works
[name]Sophie[/name] - like [name]Sophia[/name] better

[name]Arthur[/name] - ok
[name]Asher[/name] - ok
[name]August[/name] - like a lot
[name]Dominic[/name] - like
[name]Drake[/name] - like a lot
[name]Elliot[/name] - ok
[name]Everett[/name] - like a lot
[name]Finn[/name] - like, getting trendy
[name]Jonah[/name] - too matchy with [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name] - again, too matchy with [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Laurence[/name] - ok
[name]Miles[/name] - like
[name]Nolan[/name] - ok
[name]Oliver[/name] - like for your sibset
[name]Reed[/name] - doesn’t sound right with [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] - like a lot
[name]Theodore[/name] - like

If you have another girl, I think you need a very feminine name to complement [name]Arabella[/name]. Some suggestions: [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Lorelei[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Philippa[/name], [name]Seraphina[/name], [name]Theodora[/name], [name]Victoria[/name]. Your boy list gives you a lot of choices. Your boy list has a lot of potential. [name]Miles[/name], [name]Drake[/name], and [name]Rhys[/name] are my favorites. Good luck!

Thanks for your input poptart! Everything you’ve said about my girl’s list is mostly what I’ve been worried about. [name]Arabella[/name] is so frilly that a lot of my girl’s names don’t seem to match. From your suggestions I particularly like [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], and [name]Lorelei[/name]. I also think [name]Francesca[/name] is gorgeous, but there’s something holding me back from putting it on my list. When we were choosing names for our second child ([name]Jude[/name]), our girl’s choice was [name]Liliana[/name] but it’s just lost all of its luster for me.

I’ve had some other thoughts about my girl’s names. [name]How[/name] does [name]Cecily[/name] compare to [name]Cecelia[/name]? Something I love about [name]Cecelia[/name] is the nn [name]Celia[/name], but [name]Cecily[/name] is just as pretty. Not sure if it fits anymore than [name]Cecelia[/name] though. A few other names I love but have kind of gone on and off my list for years are [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Olivia[/name] (my cousin’s daughter, thus why I can’t see myself using it), and [name]Calliope[/name] (a more recent name crush of mine).

As for the boy’s list, I do feel more confident in those names. I’m over the moon about [name]Everett[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], and [name]Theodore[/name]. [name]Oliver[/name] has been towards the top of my list for ages, but not so much with DH (I bet I could change his mind with some time though).

First of all, I love your kids’ names! Second, I agree that [name]Arabella[/name]'s sister needs a more frilly name. I think [name]Cecily[/name] is a keeper. I love that name, much more than [name]Cecelia[/name]. [name]Cecily[/name] goes really well with [name]Arabella[/name]. It’s frilly enough, but it has a much different sound, making them distinct, you know?
Other suggestions:

[name]Callista[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Natasha[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Sabrina[/name]
[name]Tatiana[/name]

I think you’re definitely on the right track with boys names. My personal favourite is [name]Rhys[/name], but [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] go really well with [name]Arabella[/name] & [name]Jude[/name]

Well a sister to [name]Arabella[/name] needs a princess name, that’s for sure. The most princessy one that you’ve mentioned is [name]Aurora[/name], but [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name] is just a tongue twister :frowning: I personally think [name]Penelope[/name] would be a great choice, since it’s long and pretty but also kind of spunky. Since you have a ‘bella’ name, you could always go for a ‘rosa’ name, [name]Rosaline[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Rosamund[/name] and [name]Rosanna[/name] are all gorgeous and I think they would go lovely with [name]Arabella[/name]. Some other suggestions:

[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Vanessa[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Renata[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Bethany[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Callista[/name]
[name]Demetra[/name]
[name]Eugenie[/name]
[name]Eugenia[/name]
[name]Eulalia[/name]
Ferelith
[name]Nerissa[/name]
[name]Nerina[/name]
[name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name]

As for the boys, I like your top three. I think the go with the other names. My number one name for boys is [name]Theodore[/name], so of course that gets my vote. [name]Theo[/name], [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Jude[/name] would be ADORABLE together. But I like [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] as well

I think these names fit best:

[name]Cecelia[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Nora[/name] - if you called her [name]Eleanora[/name] and this were the nn, it would fit better with [name]Arabella[/name] ([name]Bella[/name])
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Sophia[/name]

[name]Harper[/name] was the one that didn’t fit at all because it’s a surname/unisex.

[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] (I know brothers named [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Jude[/name]).

@sis: I love your suggestions. I have to pass on [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Natasha[/name], and [name]Eva[/name] unfortunately because I have a niece who’s [name]Natalie[/name] and one who’s [name]Evelyn[/name]. Too close for me to go with. I absolutely adore [name]Rosalie[/name], though. It’s such a wonderful name and I would love to call a little girl [name]Rosie[/name]!

[name]Callista[/name] (I really love this. I love the name [name]Calliope[/name] and this is a great alternative.)
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name] (I really do love this name)
[name]Rosalie[/name] (This is my favorite :D)
[name]Sabrina[/name]
[name]Tatiana[/name]

@ameliaanne: I agree with you about any [name]Rose[/name] name. I love a few, one of my favorites is [name]Rosalie[/name] which I think would be beautiful with [name]Bella[/name]. My husband says it sounds like a Pokemon… Anyway, from your suggestions, I really like:
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Vanessa[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] (love it so much!)
[name]Renata[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Bethany[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Callista[/name] (again, I’m really loving this one!)
[name]Rowena[/name]

@ksheja: I completely agree about [name]Harper[/name]. If I used it, it would have to be a mn. Also, it’s funny that you mention [name]Eleanora[/name]. I went through “Beyond [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Aidan[/name]” last night and added [name]Eleanor[/name] to my list!

These names seem to work best together in my opinion. They could be used in any combo depending on gender and number of kids:
[name]Arabella[/name] “[name]Bella[/name]”, [name]Jude[/name], [name]Cecelia[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] “[name]Penny[/name]”, [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] “[name]Teddy[/name]”

Here is another set using more classic and well used names
[name]Arabella[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name]

  • other names for this set could be [name]William[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name]

And finally, a set that is more modern and spunky
[name]Arabella[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]

  • other names for this set could be [name]Lila[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Cleo[/name]

@ mimimom: I’m really glad you put a small few names together. Seeing them in a row like that makes me even more confident about some of my choices. All three of the sets are wonderful, but my favorite is the first set. I’m so madly in love! I almost wanna go have three more kids to use those three names. Also, seeing the last set actually makes me think that I don’t want to go in too modern of a direction. Although I like all of those names, I think my style is more towards classic names.
