I’d really like to avoid a trendy name for future baby.
Am I venturing TOO far into the out-of-style realm?
Last name is similar in cadence to Bartholemew.
[name]Burt[/name] - If I used alliteration for first child (First and last names start with B) would I be forced to do the same with future children? I am not bothered by the “and [name]Ernie[/name]” reference, but am curious how many people think of that immediately.
[name]Arthur[/name] - too old-mannish?
[name]George[/name] - love the idea of this name on a little boy. However, I’m put off by association with Pres. [name]Bush[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think about our last president when hearing this name?
As far as [name]George[/name] goes, if I’m thinking of a presidential reference for [name]George[/name] it would be [name]Washington[/name] way before [name]Bush[/name]. Kids of course will think of Curious [name]George[/name] primarily.
I like [name]Arthur[/name] a lot and [name]Artie[/name] would be sweet on a little boy. I’m not a fan of alliteration in boys names what about [name]Albert[/name] with [name]Bert[/name] for short?
I think that [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]George[/name] are perfectly usable. There are so many men named [name]George[/name] that I don’t think the [name]Bush[/name] reference would be a problem. [name]Edgar[/name] still seems very stuffy to me and I personally wouldn’t use it. [name]Burt[/name] is not my style and I would recommend it as a nickname for [name]Albert[/name], [name]Robert[/name], etc. That way you wouldn’t feel like you had to give all of your children names that begin with B.
The Arth/Barth thing is off putting to me. You could always stick [name]Arthur[/name] in the middle spot since he will hardly ever be addressed by his full name.
Your ideas seem very similar to the ones we have been considering for boys!
[name]George[/name] is becoming quite popular again, but if you do’t mind that there are a great number of [name]Georges[/name] and I don’t think one jumps to just one of them immediately. We considered it for our next babe but didn’t like the popularity rising.
I’m not a huge fan of [name]Arthur[/name], with no good reason, it is pretty classic; and while I really like [name]Archie[/name], the nn [name]Artie[/name] immediately makes me think of the character on GLEE. As for your last name, I think it depends where the emphasis is, if it was [name]Bartholomew[/name], with the emphasis on the end, go for it, but if the emphasis is on the ARTH, then maybe not.
[name]Edgar[/name] - I like it! It might be stuffy and remind people of an old man, but so would the rest of these names and I really think “old people” names are coming back ([name]Agnes[/name], [name]Frances[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Henry[/name], etc).
[name]Burt[/name] - another one we considered, though it would be short for a longer name. I prefer this over the B-E-R-T of [name]Bert[/name] & [name]Erie[/name] spelling, but I think that’s more because [name]Bert[/name] has an [name]Albert[/name] association which is not the name we are going with.
Other suggestions: [name]Walter[/name], [name]Wallace[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Perry[/name], [name]Frank[/name]/[name]Franklin[/name], [name]Harold[/name]
[name]Burt[/name]- While I don’t really like it I could see it working. And until you said [name]Ernie[/name] I didn’t even think of it.(Teen [name]Berry[/name]) So it shouldn’t be a problem.
[name]Arthur[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this name definitely usable. But the Arth/Barth is off putting.
[name]George[/name]-While [name]George[/name] isn’t the best association I don’t think thats going to be what most people think of first.
[name]Edgar[/name]- This is my favorite out of the four!
Some other suggestions are:
[name]Hubert[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Fabian[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Alfred[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Bernard[/name]
[name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Godfrey[/name]
[name]Barry[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Ernest[/name]
[name]Harmon[/name]
[name]Warren[/name]
[name]Clifford[/name](maybe too “big red dog” but I love it, guilty pleasure)
I think that if I use [name]Arthur[/name], it will have to be in the middle position, because the Arth Barth repetition does bother me in the first spot.
Of the other suggestions, I really like
[name]Linus[/name] (husband turned down)
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Wallace[/name] (love it, but have a nephew with this name)
[name]Barnaby[/name] (but possibly silly with our last name?)
Any other ideas? We’re also starting to look at [name]Rex[/name], [name]Graham[/name] and [name]Orson[/name].
i love eugene i would stay away from name alliterations. quite a few of the names i love start with c but i’m trying to stay away from them since dd’s name starts with a c. i’d feel stuck using it with number three,
