But how do you say it?

My husband and I searched for meaningful names form the Irish legends that also has a nature feel to it. Something not familiar, but pretty. We found [name]Danu[/name], the Irish goddess of birth and life. But we argue about how to pronounce it!
He says [name]DAN[/name]-yoo, and I say dah-NOO. I know most people will say it his way, and [name]DAN[/name]-yoo does lend to a better nickname of [name]Dani[/name]. But I love the earthreal feeling of Dah-NOO. The proposed middle name is [name]Nola[/name], his mother’s name. [name]DAN[/name]-yoo [name]Nola[/name], sounds like we’re cussing the grandma! But then Dah-NOO [name]Nola[/name], just doesn’t sound right, like I’m speaking a foriegn language, though that’s not a bad thing. Maybe we should scrap it.

What do you think?

I would pronounce it [name]Dan[/name]-yoo.

I don’t think that [name]Danu[/name] [name]Nola[/name] sounds right either.

[name]Do[/name] you like any of these?

I believe it’s pronounced DAH-noo. I like it, but I love [name]Nola[/name] so much!

[name]Auburn[/name]

I would say dah-noo.
I looked it up online and found this;
DA noo - http://www.mythome.org/celticnames.html

Yes, the authentic pronunciation is definitely DAH-noo.

What about [name]Finola[/name] for the middle? Keeps the reference to his mom but breaks up the repetitive sounds and gives a lovely flow to the name.

Ooh, [name]Danu[/name] [name]Finola[/name] is lovely! Or perhaps [name]Finola[/name] [name]Danu[/name], if you can consider using it as a first? I think Siofra (SHEE-fra, I’ve been told) is a lovely Irish name, but it is very open to mispronunciation.

[name]Auburn[/name]

Thanks for all the options! I do like [name]Finola[/name] - which actually opens up another nickname of [name]Fin[/name]!

“[name]DAN[/name]-oo”

Not sure but that’s what babynamesworld.com said.
