Anyone ever been so close to picking a name, but something’s just not right? The past few days I’ve been obsessed with finalizing the name.
I was very close to picking [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f]. Then I found out that some people pronounce [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] “kash-uh” and not “cassie-uh,” making me reluctant to use it at all. But I love [name_f]Cassia[/name_f]. It’s one of those hidden gem names that is unique, sounds pretty but isn’t tacky. Then I began doubting [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as a first name. I love it, but will I feel boring? [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] is a lot feistier.
Problem is, if I use [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] as a first name, it clashes with [name_f]Catalina[/name_f]. And I really have my heart set on [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] as a surname. [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] doesn’t flow like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] does.
Also, I think that [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] sounds ethnic, but not to my own ethnicity. I’m white so I don’t want to culturally appropriate anyone else with the name I pick.
And I keep looking for more names out there, but there’s nothing I love as much as these three names.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any advice? Does [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] sound ethnic? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] or [name_f]Claire[/name_f] better as a first name?
I think [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] is beautiful. I have never heard the “sh” pronunciation, and I don’t think it would be a problem.
I agree that [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] flows better, but I don’t think [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] clashes.
Claire is sweet and vintage not boring!
I also get how it might sound like a Latino name, but I live in Central [name_u]America[/name_u] and I have never heard the me [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] nor do I think of it as a Latino name. I don’t think [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] would sound like appropriation.
Cassia is gorgeous personally I do not see a pronunciation issue you can just say as @ethelmary pointed out that the name is ‘[name_f]Cassie[/name_f]-a’ which would definitely be sufficient and I don’t foresee this being a regular issue. Personally I don’t see an issue of cultural appropriation as [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] is universally used.
In relation to [name_f]Claire[/name_f] she is a lovely staple classic really simple and elegant BUT I do agree that [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] does have a more sparkly vibe to it which would make the name more appealing to me. Still [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] is lovely!
Naming is so so hard I get why your struggling. I struggled with finalising my daughters name especially as it came closer to my due date. I absolutely adore my daughter’s name and ended up just going with my gut. I think you’ll do the same and when she’s born you’ll just know if she’s a [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] or a [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
