So I really liked the name [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] for my deviant character. He’s 17 and straight out juvenile detention. But I checked nameberry and saw that although it’s unisex, it’s mostly used on girls. If you were reading a summary and saw the name [name_f]Cadence[/name_f], would it ring “GIRL!” to you? :-?
I might change his name now, so if you guys have a name suggestions that sort of rings with [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] or the character type, feel free to do me a huge favor and suggest some because I can’t think of any other name that fits him very well. I was already really fond of [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]. Thank you in advanced by the way! Have a good day.
I hate to say it, but yeah, [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] decidedly rings the ‘girl!’ bell for me.
Maybe still use the name [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] for his full name, but use the more masculine sounding [name_m]Caden[/name_m] as a nickname? That way, you can still use your original idea, but push your reader’s impression toward the masculine.
Alternatively, [name_m]Caden[/name_m] or [name_m]Caiden[/name_m] are also stand alone names that might work well as a complete replacement.
I really like the contrast of your character, straight out of juvenile detention, with the soft-sounding [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]. It does feel like a girls’ name to me, but it’s not unbelievable for a boy. You could, as suggested before, use [name_m]Caden[/name_m] (or [name_u]Cade[/name_u]) as a nickname. Or even [name_u]Aiden[/name_u], [name_u]Danny[/name_u], [name_m]Enzo[/name_m]… maybe too much of a stretch?
You might also like [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] or [name_u]Laurence[/name_u].
Thank you all so much! I’m now stuck picking in between keeping [name_f]Cadence[/name_f] and having the nn [name_m]Caden[/name_m] or changing it to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] or [name_u]Brennan[/name_u]. This helped a lot!
