I’ve come across the name Caelia for a girl, pronounced [name_m]Say[/name_m]-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-ah
Apparently it’s a latin/roman name, a feminine form of the male name Caelius
So what does everyone think, too likely to be mistaken for [name_f]Celia[/name_f]? Or misunderstood as a creative spelling of it?
(And also, if you feel like it, opinions on [name_m]Slater[/name_m] for a boy? I kind of love it but I can see why it could be written off as a try-hard version of names like [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] or [name_u]Mason[/name_u], which aren’t really my style)
CaElia…I’m pretty familiar with Latin/[name_m]Roman[/name_m] names, and I wanted to say this [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-lee-ah, so I think people might have a tough time pronouncing it. You could do Célia, but I have a feeling that wouldn’t be any better.
I really really like the same, actually. I just think pronounciation might be an issue. Then again, [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is a name on my list so I don’t think its a huge issue.
[name_m]Slater[/name_m] can keep up with [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_m]Cooper[/name_m], etc, [name_f]IMO[/name_f], but anyone my age (25-35) is going to immediately think of AC [name_m]Slater[/name_m] (not necessarily a bad thing).
I really like Caelia, because I love the [name_m]SAY[/name_m]-lee-ə pronunciation, and the look of ae in general. I put it on my list ages ago, so I guess I just can’t see it being considered a kre8tif spelling. There probably would be some confusion with [name_f]Celia[/name_f], but I think if the pronunciation is clarified, then it’s pretty clear that Caelia isn’t said the same way or the same name as [name_f]Celia[/name_f]. If anything, it might be seen as a variation or latinised form of [name_f]Celia[/name_f] (which is what I thought too, but I’ll have to check on that). Anyway, Caelia is a very beautiful name in my opinion.
I’m not a big fan, but I think [name_m]Slater[/name_m] fits very well with names like [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_m]Archer[/name_m] etc, and doesn’t seem overly try hard.
I wanted to say [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] if I’m honest.I know of a girl called [name_f]Caeley[/name_f] who pronounced it [name_f]Kayley[/name_f].
Edit: sorry just noticed the ‘i’ in the name. I would still be tempted to say something along the lines of Kaylea/Kaylia?
However the pronunciation you stated is lovely and I can certainly see where its coming from. Would something like Saylea or Sailea be a better spelling?
Guaranteed that everyone in the US would pronounce it [name_u]KAY[/name_u]-lee-uh. American English phonology makes a C only have an S sound before an E or an I, which is why [name_f]Celia[/name_f] makes an S sound but Caelia would not. Of course, you could just spell it Saelia and solve that problem.
Personally, I think Caelia is gorgeous (pronounced [name_u]KAY[/name_u]-lee-uh, though).
I think Caelia’s really pretty! But your daughter would ALWAYS be correcting people and telling them how to pronounce it and how to spell it. I feel like Saelia might be a more phonetic spelling. (I just made up Saelia. No idea if it’s a real name.). Another option would be [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] ([name_m]Ah[/name_m]-zale-ee-a).
