Warning for deceased character but she is also a bully. Also according to the first post on the thread, the year is 2044, so she’s actually been dead longer than it looks.
[name_f]Maeven[/name_f] “Mav” [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] Rathborn (1 [name_u]March[/name_u] 1986 – 21 [name_f]April[/name_f] 2022, aged 36) is Keegan’s estranged aunt and a bully to Maxx’s mother. She was always seen as the “perfect and good” sibling compared to Kell but inside, was shallow and cruel. She too had a boyfriend but was always a jerk to him, being needy and repulsive to him. They broke up after she pretended to dump him as a joke, thinking he would be all heartbroken, for her to say “Just kidding!” and laugh it off and stay together. She was worried he’d take it wrong, complaining he “always takes things wrong” but she didn’t expect the reaction she’d actually get. He didn’t act heartbroken and instead stated, “Yeah I was considering ending the relationship. It’s not working out.” She got grumpy, thinking for sure he would try to pursue her back, and yelled why he was giving up on her. “But I don’t get it. I didn’t give up. You dumped me.” She then told him it was a joke and he was “an idiot” but he responded, “No, I actually do want to break up with you. I’m tired of being yelled at. I’m tired of being kept away from my family and friends. I’m tired of being pressured. I’m tired of feeling shamed.” [name_m]Even[/name_m] her little sister Kell agreed Mav was a horrible girlfriend to him but Mav always clapped back that Kell was “horrible” after getting knocked up at 18. Mav and Kell never got along, Mav was 10 years older than Kell to begin with and was always the type to be pointlessly rude to her little sister.
Mav never had children, considering she was the type to live in her own greed rather than “fork it over on bratty ungrateful babies”, despite being bratty and ungrateful herself. Her parents in general were spoiling but Mav herself liked to sneak her way around whenever she didn’t get what she wanted. Her parents were rather harsh as well, seeing Kell experienced this firsthand, but Mav always sided with her parents and not Kell. In Mav’s eyes, she felt Kell actually planned this pregnancy with [name_u]Keegan[/name_u] because she wanted to seem more mature and grown up. Especially since Mav always treated Kell like she was little and immature and wouldn’t amount to anything. She also had a long-standing history of bullying a woman who used to be her co-worker, that woman being Maxx’s mother, and joined in when that woman’s community was treating Maxx’s mother like she was scandalous. Mav got fired for causing a lot of workplace toxicity and everyone who worked with her agreed that she was a horrible person to work with. She constantly tried to turn people against each other, she berated anyone she felt wasn’t important, and whenever co-workers were happy – she’d go ruin their moods. People were terrified of her because of how much she’d try to exclude them, like her painting a visual picture to them that the business was going to do so much better without them. Mav was always making people uncomfortable with how hurtful she was to them and her getting fired was symbolic that enough was truly enough. Some people still remember that she was a bully and was constantly harassing them at the time even more than they realise she is dead now.
At 36, after applying for another job which she hadn’t yet known whether she was hired or not for it, she died getting home. She died in a motorcycle crash but this was after she was drinking. She had also been speeding at the time and had nearly crashed into a car, before swerving and hitting a pole. The driver of the car was unhurt but still feels terrified about what happened that day. Kell had been estranged from Mav and only knew about the death from the news on TV, but ultimately decided she and [name_u]Keegan[/name_u] weren’t going to attend the funeral. Mav likely wouldn’t have wanted them there and she didn’t honestly want to be there for someone who had constantly harassed her. However some goodness came out of this as a few years later, [name_m]Maxx[/name_m] and [name_u]Keegan[/name_u] would be friends. At first Kell was worried about Maxx’s mother since she came from a wealthy background and Mav always wore clothes that showcased her wealth, but they then got on a good note after all and Kell felt sorry for the way her late estranged sister treated Maxx’s mother. Kell and [name_u]Keegan[/name_u] are also supportive of Maxx’s partner and their decision to take it slow, something Mav wouldn’t have done with her own boyfriend at the time. Kell doesn’t talk about Mav often, living her life free from that fear of evil, but she feels positive in the sense that Mav can’t hurt anyone else. She doesn’t pity her sister in any sense that she’d pity anyone whose also felt mistreated by actions Mav caused. One things for sure; Kell, [name_u]Keegan[/name_u], [name_m]Maxx[/name_m], and Maxx’s mother reflect on life and why it’s important to live it kindly, because that’s how one will be remembered in the end.
