I recently posted in another thread saying I would consider using Cahill as a possible name for a son. What do you think of Cahill? Is it too out-there? Middle name suggestions would be appreciated as well.
[name_m]Ive[/name_m] had friends with the last names Cahill and Cohill, so it’s hard for me to imagine it as a first name. Of course there are plenty of surname names. It’s a little out there for me though. I like [name_m]Conall[/name_m] (which looks a bit similar anyway) with the built in nn [name_u]Con[/name_u].
I see it working in the deep South, but otherwise there will be confusion and pronunciation issues.
I don’t really think it is out there. It has the same prn as [name_m]Carl[/name_m], doesn’t it? I know people with this last name, and that is how they prn it.
Oh the person i knew with this last name pronounced it [name_f]CAY[/name_f]-hill. I dont get how it could be [name_m]Carl[/name_m]??
I think with the right accent it could sound similar to [name_m]Carl[/name_m] (if [name_m]Carl[/name_m] was pronounced cah-ill), but the way I say [name_m]Carl[/name_m] and Cahill sound completely different. I say Cahill as cay-hill and [name_m]Carl[/name_m] as car-ull.
I don’t know, it is just the only exposure I have had to the name :).
I’m in Australia- everything gets mushed together (generally). So, yes, it sounds exactly like [name_m]Carl[/name_m] where I am, they don’t prn it ca-hill, just [name_m]Carl[/name_m]. I much prefer the cay-hill prn- I don’t think it is too out there, but it is distinctive- a good sweet spot name.
I know several people with this as an actual surname, so it’s not my favorite as a first name. Also, nn possibilities are [name_f]Cay[/name_f] and [name_m]Hill[/name_m].
