So I am really liking the gaelic (Scottish) name [name]Caitriona[/name]. But only when pronounced " ka TCHREE un na " as found here http://www.namenerds.com/scottish/scotc.html
However, Nameberry states [name]Caitriona[/name] is pronounced just [name]Katrina[/name]. Which I really do not like. I shouldn’t say I don’t like it, but I’d simply spell it [name]Katrina[/name] if that’s how I wanted it said.
[name]How[/name] do people pronounce [name]Caitriona[/name] when you see it?? I have googled and seems so many mixed answers!
I keep finding different answers. I have found [name]Catriona[/name] to be scottish and [name]Caitriona[/name] to be Irish. I prefer the scottish but just would want to pronounce it " ka TCHREE un na " and not sure if that is right!?
As far as I know, both are considered correct. ‘ca-treena’ probably happened because ‘ca-tree-uh-na’ is hard to get right without a Gaelic accent. Then you’ve got different sorts of Gaelic accents and in some apparently it sounds the first way and in others the second. ((Sources here are from Irish and Scottish people’s comments on various message boards.))
The pronunciation that’s definitely incorrect is ‘cat-ree-oh-na’.
I really dislike [name]Cat[/name]-ree-oh-na. Which is how I pronounced it in my own head at first glance too! But once I read [name]Cat[/name]-tree-uh-na I loved. Probably will nevr use it just based on all this confusion ahah but it’s a pretty name! Thanks for everyone’s feedback1 Going to listen to the native Irish people say it now1
