Does it work for a boy? My husband and I both like it but keeps cropping up as a girls name though have seen it in some unisex lists.
Honestly, all I can think of is it’s a coloring for cats; one that also happens to only turn up in female cats, so I’d veto it for a boy.
[name_f]Calico[/name_f] would be a cute family nickname for [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], but I can’t see it being a good name for a grown man.
I kinda agree with this. It’s a cool idea and would be cute on a little boy, and I guess [name_u]Cal[/name_u] would be an option, but I just can’t imagine a 50 year old man introducing himself as [name_f]Calico[/name_f]–especially in a professional setting.
I feel a bit silly about it because it doesn’t have much of a precedence on either gender, but something about the sound of [name_f]Calico[/name_f] feels very feminine to me. Maybe [name_m]Callaway[/name_m], [name_m]Inigo[/name_m], [name_u]Cassio[/name_u], or [name_u]Jericho[/name_u]?
It’s a bit silly. I can’t really see it as a name. For me it will always be the color of a cat, and male calico cats are sterile, which is really all that comes to mind when I think of calico and boy/male together. Sorry. And if it were to be used, it is more feminine in nature to me.
[name_f]Calico[/name_f] is a coloring usually only seen on female cats, and it sounds rather feminine. A friend of mine knew someone named [name_m]Callum[/name_m], though (nn Call) and that may be an alternative.
[name_f]Calico[/name_f]: a fabric with flowers on it (think [name_m]Little[/name_m] House on the [name_u]Prairie[/name_u], it’s like chintz) or a colouring found in mostly female cats.
It feels VERY girly to me. It’s adorable. But it’s one of the few -o names that feels truly girly to me.
I like [name_f]Calico[/name_f] as a male’s name.
It does have the pirate association with [name_f]Calico[/name_f] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] so it can be seen as manly
I automatically think cat… most calicos are female
I don’t think I could take a Calico seriously though, might be better as a middle or a nickname.
Calico Jack’s real name though was: John Rackham
I agree that it makes me think of a cat. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] for a similar sound? Nickname “[name_u]Cal[/name_u]” is great.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Calico[/name_f] on a boy! I never found it feminine my combo is [name_f]Calico[/name_f] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] at the moment but I don’t love [name_m]Jack[/name_m] (NO not in reference to the pirate). I say go for it.
This is exactly what I thought.
