Calla?

What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Calla[/name_f] for a girl?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it ages well/sounds professional enough/doesn’t sound too cutesy?

I think it sounds youthful but not cutesy. The a ending gives it a more ‘adulty’ edge than an ie ending.

I agree with pp about it sounding youthful, but not childish. I think it could work for a grown woman better than say [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Callie[/name_f] (not to say that they don’t work, just the a does sound more mature). I also think [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_u]Eden[/name_u] and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] go very well together.

I love [name_f]Calla[/name_f]! [name_f]Calla[/name_f] lilies are beautiful flowers and the look and sound of [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is also beautiful. I think it definitely would age well. It is short and ends in a but I think it is also grown up and sophisticated.

If you are worried it sounds cutesie, maybe you would like it as a nn for something longer? I really like [name_f]Callista[/name_f] and think [name_f]Calla[/name_f] could work as a nn?

[name_f]Calla[/name_f] is one of my newest faves. I think it’s elegant and graceful, and would probably age well. It’s also feminine without being too fussy.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]CALLA[/name_f]. It’s on my short list. I find it fresh, youthful, but also strong. I think it’ll age very well. It’s also one of the more obscure flower names, and I’m surprised I haven’t heard it so much. A sort of vintage gem. Nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u] is also fun.

I also love [name_f]Calla[/name_f]. It’s just youthful and she will grow into it. It would be long time before it would seems weird, since [name_f]Calla[/name_f] can suit a college student or young adult and once she is old, no one will blink an eye.

I think whirligig’s description hit the nail on the head–youthful but not childish. I could see it aging well. It’s not quite substantial enough for the FN spot for my taste, but still gorgeous, and I like seeing it around.

This describes [name_f]Calla[/name_f] nicely!

[name_f]Calla[/name_f] is a newer crush. I love the sound! It’s beautiful, but simple. I think it will age fine, and it has [name_f]Callie[/name_f] for a girly nickname and [name_u]Cal[/name_u] if she’s more tomboyish.

Used to be my favorite name of all time until my sister told her best friend to name her baby that…UGH! so I love it, but won’t ever use it. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] Lillies are my all time favorite flower and I love them…so I think it’s perfect and not too cutesy at all…

Very nice and not too cutesy. It ages just as well as fellow flower names [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but isn’t as common.

The unusual edge is very attractive.

If you still worry, try the full name Callandra for the nn [name_f]Calla[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Calla[/name_f]! I don’t think of it as cutesy. I think of it a kind of minimalist, elegant, chic… not frilly at all.

I do like [name_f]Calla[/name_f]. It’s a bit like [name_f]Nora[/name_f] in that it is youthful but not childish. It could be cute and spunky on a little girl but will also age a lot better than some other short -a ending girls names such as [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. The only problem I have with [name_f]Calla[/name_f] is that sometimes I find it quite harsh sounding (I much prefer the softer sounding [name_f]Nor[/name_f]- of [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_f]El[/name_f]- of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] to the [name_u]CAL[/name_u]- of [name_f]Calla[/name_f]) and I also feel like it’s incomplete (I don’t know why but I always find that I don’t feel like I’ve finished once I’ve said the whole name!)

I really love [name_f]Calla[/name_f], but I had to take it off my list because my S last name made it sound like “Callous.” I think it works well on a child or adult, it’s pretty, elegant, and simple.
