[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All,
It looks like we will be moving to [name_m]Oz[/name_m], where my husband is from, in about 18 months time. We’re not sure how long for yet. With any luck we will have another bubba with us when we go, and i was wondering if you lovely Aussie-Berries could peruse my girls list and give me an Aussie perspective. I’ve had a look at popularity etc but it would just be great to get your impressions, images and the inside scoop on what kind of little girl you think might have these names. And please warn me if any of these are the names of dubious celebrities!
I’m an Aussie! I love all of your names, and none of them are jumping out as inappropriate or attached to a terrible celebrity. There’s a charity called the [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] Foundation that provides support for kids orphaned because of parental drug abuse… but it’s not a super well-known charity (it tinkled a tiny bell in my mind, and I googled).
I particuarly love [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f].
Aussie perspective-like lfish I don’t find any of these names have negative associations/connotations here so you should be fine. They are familiar, but underused which is a nice plus. My favorites would be [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Oriana[/name_f].
Another aussie berry, and i love all of those names. Nothing bad comes to mind looking at any of those, but thats just be who lives in melbourne.
I particularly love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and think they all work well.
@Jnoysie, I think we will be in [name_m]Melbourne[/name_m] too!
The one i’m really concerned about is [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], because i think its got quite popular over there. Is it cool-hipster-trendy popular or is it a considered a bit trashy?
[name_u]Indiana[/name_u] is not at all popular here in Australia.
All the names you’ve listed are lovely and definitely useable in Australia. I especially like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] & [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].
I live in Queensland, and of all those names on your list, I’ve only met one [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] here (very pretty name, by the way). None of them jump out with any particularly negative connotations.
I particularly like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], although they are all lovely names!
I live in [name_m]Melbourne[/name_m] and I like all the names on your list except [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]. Perhaps it’s just my experience of the name and I hate to say it, but I do find it a little trashy (but that is just my own experience)… I really love [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] & [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] out of your list the most though
I’m in [name_m]Melbourne[/name_m] too, and while I don’t know any [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]'s personally I have heard it a bit at sports meets, in supermarkets ect so it may be reasonably popular in some areas. I wouldn’t say it’s trashy though…
I don’t think any others jump out as too common or haveing negative accociations. For fun, and to gauge how you feel about a name try yelling it in an Aussie accent. I’ve been put off perfectly normal names by hearing children being yelled at in Kmart… Maaadissseeenn certainly looses its appeal!
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]: i know one its quite unusual but its nice
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]: Quite dated
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]: Also dated
[name_u]Indiana[/name_u]: top 100 but its not trashy
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]: Its unusual and nice
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]: [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is top 100 so [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] isn’t too out there
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]: [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are quite common so [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] isn’t a problem
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]: this one is unusal
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]: Never met one but their were 19 born last year in NSW
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]: This sounds like a nickname but here their are a head of just [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Katie[/name_f]'s
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]: I know one but I don’t like it it seems dated
All your names are quite pretty and also quite uncommon.
I know two Tabithas, one [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and one [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], and they are all 17-22.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] and actually was having an internal dilemma about it last night, over whether or not I could use it as a girls name… and I decided yes It’s personally my favourite of all the names for a little Aussie, and there is a beautiful actress called [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Evans[/name_m] who used to be on Home and Away, a classic Australian soapie thats been going for about 25 years.
And in reply to one of your earlier replies, the only [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] I know of (and I’ve worked in three schools) is the actress!!
