Calling all name experts: Charlotte

I know the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is VERY popular…but it’s not that popular in my region. It’s interesting to me as it skipped a few generations but has now come “back.” What is your opinion of the name? (popularity aside). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s a good name for a modern girl or sounds too dated? What comes to mind when you hear the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]???

I know I’m in the right place with nameberry

I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], aside from the popularity. I think it’s a beautiful namename and think it would sound very modern! If you think it’s too popular you could use it as middle name. I know one [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and she’s 3.

It depends on where you’re from. Where I’m from, it’s not used much at all (I’m from southern United States) and it’s definitely my favorite name  [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]) will definitely be a name I use in the future <3

I don’t see it as dated, its very beautiful and has a few modern nickname options such as Lottie (love!), Lola, and Charlie. When I picture a Charlotte, I see a little girl with beautiful brown curls and big brown eyes, but that may be because that’s what I look like

I think it’s a gorgeous name!

I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. It’s on my short girls’ list. I was starting to wonder if the national popularity was putting me off of it (as it’s already poised to break the top 10 in the next year or two), but I came across an adorable little [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] while I was on holiday last week, and I was like, “You know, I could totally see me with a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I don’t know what I was so worried about.” Meeting a little [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] made me feel MORE comfortable about using it, not less so. I generally don’t give a hoot about popularity anyway (I had a popular name, and liked that aspect of it, and I can see my future children loving that aspect, as well, in the future I envision for myself and my family), but when I love a name when I think it’s less popular, I do find it really disappointing and off-putting when a name I love because I think it’s obscure because popular.

That being said, popularity aside (or not aside), I love the name. I love the tie to the lovely [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Bronte[/name_f], I love the nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], I love the effortless class [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] exudes, and spunk, and sweetness, and charm. I love how versatile she is. It’s definitely not too dated, and it’s a great name for a child born in the 2010s. What comes to mind is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] (and my beloved [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f]!) and the adorable little [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] I came across last week.

It’s so so pretty. It’s popular for a reason. But for me personally, I couldn’t use a name that is too popular because I hate how dated names sound when the popularity fades. [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] is a name that springs to mind. [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] is pretty but would you want to name your daughter that now? Probably not.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s popularity is well deserved. It’s a gorgeous name. It isn’t all that popular in my state.

I adore the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! It’s one of my favourite girls names, and I have it paired as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]

I’m in Australia where [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] has been number 1 girls name for about 6 years I think, and was in the top 20 before that too. So it’s very popular here. However, I have never met anyone called [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I first fell in love with the name when I was about ten, and I must admit, when I realised how popular [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] had gotten, I was very upset. I have an uncommon name ([name_f]Josephine[/name_f]), and I always get compliments on it. And I have never met another [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] in my 23 years. So I always wanted to give my kids that same experience.

But then my other favourite girl name ([name_f]Matilda[/name_f]) became popular, and so did my boy name ([name_u]Elliott[/name_u]), and even [name_m]Austin[/name_m] has just entered our top 100, so I decided that I love those names way too much to give them up just because they’re popular. And if so many other people are using these names, then it just confirms that they are as gorgeous as I thought

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] makes me think of a sweet girl with blonde, curly hair and big brown eyes, and my favourite nickname for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is gorgeous! Your description fits her perfectly  I think mine fits [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] but only because it’s my favorite combo. I like that [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] has so many nickname options so you’ll have a [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] over here, and a [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] over there. I love your other combos as well <3

Popularity aside, I think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous and it’s one of my favourite names.

However, it’s EXTREMELY popular (currently #1 in Australia, where I live) and I know several little Charlottes. I’d consider using it as a middle, but definitely not as a first.

Where I live it isn’t super-popular, either. I love it, and, in fact, my baby sister’s name is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], after her grandmother. Classic, elegant, and timeless!

I’m like you in that I haven’t met anyone with the name even though it’s popular. Perhaps thats why I cant get a good feel for it!

I’m a minority, but I do NOT like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. At all. Sorry. I don’t like how it sounds or how it feels to say out loud. I don’t understand why it’s so popular. Nothing about it is attractive to me.

Sorry. I really am. But again, I’m a minority.

I love the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], if only every second little girl wasn’t named it. If you don’t know any then use it!

I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and while I know quite a few, it’s one name I have on my list despite the amount that I know. Regional popularity means nothing to me, so I go by how many I’ve personally encountered instead

Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing

I appreciate that it is a classic. I also love the nickname possibilities, especially [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. However, I don’t like this name. I usually am not bothered by rhymes, but [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and harlot get to me. It’s all I see.

It’s my grandmother’s name, but I don’t think I will use it, as another family member has called “dibbs.” I’m okay with that. I don’t see it as outdated, and it seems feminine yet strong to me, but I’m just not in love with it. I’d rather have a cousin or niece by this name than a daughter!

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is actually one of my most disliked names. I don’t like the sound of it at all when spoken and don’t even particularly like the look of it on paper. I think it’s really old and stuffy and not something I would enjoy on a little girl of today at all. I am aware this opinion is in a minority, though.

In regards to popularity, I have seen this name around, but I think nameberry pays a lot more attention to this name than the real world. It definitely is more popular in certain areas over others, but it seems all areas expect this name to be on the rise.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s a lovely name! I live near [name_u]Paris[/name_u] and my best friend here is a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], it’s pretty popular here with all ages. I didn’t know many Charlottes back in the states but I don’t think you could go wrong with such a sweet-sounding name.
