In college I dated a [name]Cassidy[/name] (male) who was named after the Grateful Dead song, and after reading the story of how the song got it’s name, I always thought it was an incredibly beautiful name. The Dead’s lyrics have so much poetic imagery, and they’re a hot-bed of interesting names, even for non-hippies.
Here are a few right off the top of my head. Any other Dead fans wanna play?
[name]Casey[/name] ([name]Casey[/name] [name]Jones[/name])
[name]Anne[/name] [name]Marie[/name] ([name]Friend[/name] of the Devil)
[name]Magnolia[/name] ([name]Sugar[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name]… lots of flower names in this one, along with [name]Sunshine[/name])
[name]Jack[/name], [name]Shannon[/name] ([name]Jack[/name] Straw)
[name]Bertha[/name] ([name]Bertha[/name])
[name]Bonnie[/name] [name]Lee[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]August[/name] (Wharf Rat)
[name]China[/name] ([name]China[/name] [name]Doll[/name], [name]China[/name] [name]Cat[/name] Sunflower)
I wrote this big long post about this topic, and then my friend called and I didn’t hit post. Now my post is lost.
I despise the Grateful Dead, but my husband is a huge fan. He will be fascinated by this thread. When he gets home, I will show him this thread and he will think of a lot of Grateful Dead themed names. He wanted to name our son after [name]Jerry[/name] [name]Garcia[/name]! Blah! I would have never let that happen. We have some hideous G.D. posters down in the garage, but none in the house. I cannot bear to hear their music. But [name]Kent[/name] wears Grateful Dead T-shirts sometimes, and I don’t mind that. He has a little picture of [name]Jerry[/name] playing the guitar on his desk. When I saw it, I turned it around backward. But soon it was turned the right way again.
i can’t believe no one mentioned [name]Althea[/name], or [name]Sampson[/name] or delilah…delilah could also refer to [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Jones[/name] in the song “[name]Brown[/name] Eyed Women” there is also “loose [name]Lucy[/name]” (although i can"t imagine naming a kid after that song)
[name]Even[/name] though this is an old post, it’s fun! I’m also a Deadhead, and have performed as a (female) vocalist in GD cover bands. So naturally, I have been thinking of names related to their songs! Here are a few that haven’t been mentioned.

[name]Clementine[/name]

[name]Esau[/name] (My Brother [name]Esau[/name])
[name]Franklin[/name] ([name]Franklin[/name]'s [name]Tower[/name])
[name]Gloria[/name] (Technically a [name]Van[/name] [name]Morrison[/name] song, but GD covered it frequently)
[name]Jane[/name] ([name]Queen[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Approximately)
[name]Jed[/name] ([name]Tennessee[/name] [name]Jed[/name])
[name]John[/name] (Uncle [name]John[/name]'s Band)

[name]River[/name] (Lazy [name]River[/name] Road)

[name]Sailor[/name] (Lost [name]Sailor[/name])
[name]Solomon[/name] ([name]King[/name] [name]Soloman[/name]'s Marbles)
[name]Abraham[/name], [name]Issac[/name], [name]Gideon[/name] (from The Greatest [name]Story[/name] [name]Ever[/name] Told)
[name]Electra[/name], [name]Jade[/name], [name]Laurel[/name] (from Mountains of the [name]Moon[/name])
Also note that [name]Trixie[/name] can be a nn for [name]Beatrix[/name] or [name]Beatrice[/name] And [name]Cerise[/name] is an alternate spelling of [name]Cherise[/name]
Thank you so much for making this list!
Our top runners are
[name]Althea[/name], [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] ([name]Nolia[/name])
I was about to post about [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_u]Blue[/name_u] until I saw some one had already mentioned it, also Ramble on [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
We named our girl [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] after the song [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_u]Blue[/name_u]. [name_u]Lee[/name_u] is a family name (shared by mom and sister), but it also came to mind due to [name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]
Sorry to revive zombie thread but my husband is a huge deadhead and has settled on the name [name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] for our third son… He is pretty stuck one it. I want to offer some alternatives for boy names from songs… We have been calling the baby [name_m]Bear[/name_m] for months so that middle name might stick but anyone think of any boy names he might love?
