I’ve recently taken to the name [name_m]Hanan[/name_m], which is feminine in Arabic and masculine in Hebrew. I knew a female [name_m]Hanan[/name_m] who pronounced it huh-[name_f]NAN[/name_f], which I believe is the typical Arabic pronunciation. I’ve been wondering if the Hebrew version is pronounced differently- I’ve seen it listed as both HAY-nin (rhymes with [name_m]Canaan[/name_m]) and HA-nin (rhymes with cannon). Which is standard in Hebrew?
I’ve also read that there are politicians named [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] [name_m]Hanan[/name_m] from [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand, so if any [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealanders have insight on how the surname is pronounced I’d love to hear it!
Thanks in advance!
