My partner and I have, somehow, managed to find a name that we both [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] and that feels like it is THE name for our child (if its a girl, we’ve picked [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] for a boy).
The name is [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. The only issue with have with it is that she’ll have two surnames, the first of which has two syllables, the second has one, and both end in s, and we’re worried that people will think we’ve named her after the Duchess of Cornwall (who’s name was [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] Bowles). I don’t have a problem with her, but I don’t want people to think I’ve named my child after her either.
Am I massively overthinking this, or is it a legitimate concern? Our second choices would be [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], we think.
While the Duchess of Cornwall was my first thought, I don’t think that would be a terribly common connection. I think you’re likely overthinking it as [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] was a popular (at least where I am) name long before the Duchess of Cornwall was garnering attention from the press.
Maybe [name_f]Camila[/name_f] would be of interest to you? It’s pronounced slightly different and is the Spanish form of the name - I feel like it would distance that [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] Bowles connection for you a bit.
From your other choices, [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is lovely.
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] is a really lovely name.
As a [name_u]Brit[/name_u] myself, I am respectful of British Royalty, but I would not pay much heed to someone who thought you decided to name your daughter after a member of the [name_u]Royal[/name_u] family.
This would annoy me and I would think I would have a nice gentle -“You know, I never thought of that myself” reply and smile ready.
I hope you are overthinking as we all do, to look for problems our chosen name might bring to our children, and it would be very unlikely to happen. @lawsonhaley say [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] was used in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] long before the present Duchess of Cornwall made the front page, as I too know few very lovely women who carry the name [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. I hope you do decide to stay with this choice.
