I need a symbol for a rebellion, like the mockingjay from Hungers Games. Thanks!
Well this definitely needs more information…
I’m not going to give much away, because I’m afraid people will steal my idea. It’s a dystopian story and there’s a rebellion. I need a symbol, like the mockingjay (with the arrow in its beak) from the Hunger Games, for the rebellion in my story.
See, the reason she said more info is needed is because that’s too little to go on to make useful suggestions. The use of the mockingjay as a symbol for the rebellion is drawn from the world and history portrayed in the book. Look at the list on tvtropes (just google “symbol of rebellion” and you’ll come up with all sorts of stuff); they have a whole bunch from literature, real life, etc. to give you some ideas.
Is there a large group or concept the rebels can draw from? [name_u]Red[/name_u] is a common color used to signify resistance, and any symbols that common people can identify with and unify over. Is there something in your world’s history that the rebel leaders are inspired by? [name_m]Just[/name_m] asking for arbitrary symbols won’t necessarily get good results, since the effectiveness of the symbol and how it resonates with your story’s populace will depend on the world they’re living in.
Symbolism depends heavily on context. Take royalty for example, and the animals associated with it. To the English, the lion is a symbol of royalty. But in Korea, they used the dragon to represent their rulers. Different countries and cultures have very different symbolism. Context matters. So as you could imagine, without knowing even a little about the cultural and historical background of this rebellion, it’s hard to come up with a fitting symbol that will capture its essence.
I’m a graphic designer, so coming up with ways to represent a message is kind of my thing. But I’m going to need somewhere to start, or else I’m just throwing random ideas at you until something sticks, which is a lot less productive than having something a little more substantial to work from and give you tailored suggestions. You don’t have to give much away; just enough that we at least have SOME idea of what direction to go in.
So ummm…a particular color? Usually red does the trick. It’s bold, eye-catching, the color of blood, all that. A hand symbol/gesture? An image of something particular to your story? I’m not sure how far removed your dystopia is from the real world, so it’s hard to be any more specific.
Sorry if I wasn’t of much help, but hopefully I at least gave you some things to think about. Maybe you can even come up with something on your own!
I completely agree with everything @periwinkleblue wrote. Without any information, I could only advise you to use a variation of uprising fist, which is the symbol of rebellion in general.
Yeah, we really can’t help you unless you tell us what kinda of symbol you want and what the symbol is suppose to mean
Indeed, otherwise you’re just asking for any sort of symbol. Like… a silver cow wearing a top hat, with a tomato in its mouth .
Ahaha I actually love that. Rebels with a sense of humor. Maybe minus the tophat, and rather than a tomato, with something more like a…grenade or whatever, if it’s a violent movement. But if it’s a more peaceful rebellion, the tomato could work just fine!
…or maybe it’s less that the rebels have a sense of humor and more than I have a bad one. Haha.
