Can "Chord" be a nickname for something longer?

I’ve liked the name Chord ever since seeing it on the opening credits for Glee (Chord Overstreet), and it definitely fits in with my naming style (short, strong, one-syllable names).

However we are working with the middle name “[name]Clark[/name]”, which is a family name. And “chord clark” sounds dumb.

Any suggestions for a longer first name, that goes with [name]Clark[/name] as a middle name, that could be shortened to Chord?

This will be a younger sibling to a [name]Gage[/name].

[name]Cordell[/name]
[name]Cordero[/name]
[name]Cordae[/name]
[name]Cordale[/name]
Cordarius
[name]Cordaro[/name]
Cordeiro
[name]Cordelle[/name]
[name]Cordney[/name]

My first thought was [name]Cordell[/name], but I don’t particularly like [name]Cordell[/name]. After that I was going to suggest something like [name]Corin[/name] or [name]Corey[/name] with a D middle name (I quite like [name]Corin[/name] [name]Desmond[/name]), but that won’t work either since you already have a set middle name.

If you don’t like the flow of Chord [name]Clark[/name] (I agree that it’s rather choppy and doesn’t really work), would you be able to split it up with another middle? Chord ______ [name]Clark[/name]?

The only other option I can think of is [name]Conrad[/name] nicknamed Chord, which I kind of like, but [name]Conrad[/name] to me has a much different feel than [name]Gage[/name] or Chord.

My first thought was of the name [name]Concord[/name], though it might sound a little heavy.

I have a friend named [name]Cortland[/name] who goes by [name]Cort[/name], he could just as easily go by [name]Cord[/name].

I was thinking along the lines of [name]Cortland[/name] / Cordland / Chordland. I’m not sure though. That may be bordering too “out there.”

I’d say Chord is already pretty out there, and [name]Cortland[/name]/Cordland/Chordland is just following the pattern.

What about Chordson, Chorden, Chorder, Chordman, Chordon, Chordly

you can also spell chord - cord. [name]Cord[/name] [name]Clark[/name] sounds fine to me.

I had the same thought.

I know a very adorable little boy named [name]Cordell[/name]. He’s a bit geeky, which makes him all the more loveable. I think [name]Cordell[/name] nn Chord would be really cool, and I think [name]Cordell[/name] [name]Clark[/name] is really nice.

Good luck!

I found this thread because I was inspired reading “Corduroy” for my daughter tonight… so [name]Cord[/name]/Chord could also be short for Corduroy
