Trying to get my list of baby names together for the next round and one of our top contenders is [name]Eliza[/name] for a girl, my husband’s great grandmother’s name. I love it. The issue is that we already have a son named [name]Henry[/name]. Is this in the same ballpark as putting names say, [name]Fred[/name] and [name]Wilma[/name] together in the same batch of siblings? I just don’t want to get my heart set on it and then to say, oh no, I wasn’t naming all my children after the cast of “My Fair Lady!”
Any other suggestions to go wtih [name]Henry[/name] for a girl? My husband hates every name that I have mentioned apart from [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Jane[/name]. Middle name is supposed to be [name]Beatrice[/name], (husband’s grandmother’s middle name and homage to my grandmother, [name]Bernice[/name]) except with [name]Alice[/name], which I feel is too matchy. We have a 3 syllable surname, ending with -son (one of the classics you hear from time to time, but not in the ranks of [name]Smith[/name] or [name]Jones[/name]). Help, please! I also love [name]Evangeline[/name] as a middle name, but this might be too long with our surname. Thoughts on [name]Eliza[/name]? Other suggestions?
Honestly, I love [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] paired together, though it reminds me of My Fair Lady. To be truthful, though, I’m not so confident that the rest of the world would automatically put two and two together. Yes, perhaps our fellow Berries might, but I’ll put that up to us seemingly being a bunch of literature and musical theater buffs! So, I think [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] could definitely work for you!
Other names I like with [name]Henry[/name] include:
I cant speak for everyone but I didnt get the “My fair lady” reference. I love [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] together. I’ll suggest more names later.
That’s what I told my husband, so if it was [name]Alice[/name], it would have to be another middle name. I don’t know that I’m as fond of [name]Alice[/name] as I used to be before anyways. Thanks for the input!
Ok I was involved in theatre for years and I love My Fair Lady and it didn’t even occur to me. I’d guess that many (most) people wouldn’t even make the connection even after you mention it. When I saw the thread title I was so confused because I was thinking that there is probably no better sibling name for either of them! They are perfect together!
I think you should go for [name]Eliza[/name]! It has significance to your family and you already to love it. It also goes wonderfully with [name]Henry[/name]. When I read the title the thread, I said to myself, wow [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] go so well together but I can’t figure out why. Only when I read the post did I realize it was because of My Fair Lady. The names are both classic and not uncommon in todays baby naming. I really don’t think most people of adult age will see the connection, and I certainly don’t think people of your children’s generation will get it either.
Thanks! That’s good to know from a fellow theatre buff!
One of the things that drew me to [name]Henry[/name] was [name]Henry[/name] Higgins. I liked [name]Eliza[/name] more for [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Bennett[/name] from “Pride and Prejudice.” I also discovered a short story by [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name] called “[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name]” about an ill fated pair.
I did think "My Fair Lady’/ ‘Pygmalion’ straight away but I am a big fan.
I don’t think it is the sort of connection that everyone would make and even then it isn’t a bad connection.
I love the name [name]Eliza[/name] too!
I like a lot of your other options, especially [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Henry[/name].
Other suggestions (I can’t remember all those on your list so apologies for repeats).
Haha. It’s my husband that makes the connection more than I do, which is only after I showed him the musical when we were dating.
He is super picky about names. He will just come up with “I don’t like it” but will never say why. Like I said, the only suggestion he has ever made is “[name]Jane[/name]” which I worry about being too “plain.” When we were supposed to have a girl (our ultrasound was wrong), we were pressured to choose [name]Liliana[/name]. We had really wanted to choose [name]Annabel[/name]. He liked that, but now a few people have made associations to dairy cows and he’s backing off. I’d still be happy with [name]Annabel[/name] too.
[name]Annabel[/name] is pretty with [name]Henry[/name], but if you think it is too “dairy cow,” [name]Annora[/name] would be a nice compliment to your son’s name, as would [name]Anneliese[/name]!
I didn’t get the My Fair Lady reference until you mentioned it, but what did come to mind was the song “There’s a Hole in My Bucket” (Dear [name]Liza[/name], dear [name]Liza[/name]… etc. etc. So fix it, dear [name]Henry[/name], dear [name]Henry[/name])… but that would be such a fun song to sing to the two of them!
[name]Eliza[/name] is one of my faves for a girl, almost a perfect name I think… question for you: what nicknames would you use, not that you need to, but if you did? Other than [name]Ellie[/name], there’s [name]Liza[/name] and [name]Liz[/name], which I don’t love… what about Lizey?
Most likely [name]Liza[/name] or [name]Lizzy[/name]. I’m not much of one for nicknames, although the one we’ve kinda coined for [name]Henry[/name] is “Henners.” I’m not a fan of [name]Hank[/name] and some of my husband’s family keeps trying for that one, which we correct every time!
[name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] go very nicely together!
By the way, as an [name]Eliza[/name] myself, I have NEVER gone by a nickname, nor did I ever want to. I feel very lucky, I have always loved my name. (Altho I dislike that everyone has rediscovered it!! :))
I love [name]Eliza[/name] with [name]Henry[/name]. Before I thought of “My Fair Lady”, I thought of the song “There’s a Hole in the Bucket”.
“There’s a hole in the bucket,
Dear [name]Liza[/name], Dear [name]Liza[/name],
There’s a hole in the bucket, Dear [name]Liza[/name], a hole,
Well, then, fix it, Dear [name]Henry[/name], Dear [name]Henry[/name], Dear [name]Henry[/name],
Well, then, fix it, Dear [name]Henry[/name], Dear [name]Henry[/name], fix it…”
I also love [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] together. We know a brother and sister named [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Alice[/name].
[name]Henry[/name] is “[name]Henry[/name] [name]Christian[/name]”
I chose [name]Christian[/name] for my Danish Grandmother, who had always told me that was her favorite boy name. It’s popular in Denmark too amongst the royals. I thought it would be a nice way to honor her memory.
