If it was a girl, I was going to call her [name]Molly[/name] (older sibs are [name]Rory[/name] & [name]Ned[/name])…now my brother is flipping out - swears that’s his name for a girl (no sign of baby of either gender there but I do know he’d like to start a family soon). [name]Do[/name] I have to give up naming rights to a possible future child? I don’t want to cause any animosity. My second choice may be [name]Orla[/name] but I’m unsure & would appreciate comments. [name]Molly[/name] is adorable! I really don’t think he has a right to call the name if he doesn’t have a baby on the way. I also like [name]Orla[/name], I think it’s beautiful but [name]Molly[/name] goes best with the other kid’s names.

I think you can use [name]Molly[/name]. You had no way of knowing that your brother liked the name too. If his wife isnt pregnant that he doesnt have a claim on the name imo. I dont really like [name]Orla[/name].
Oooh tricky. I suppose you have to weigh up how much the name means to you and him. He has no rights to it if he’s never told you and has no baby on the way, but if you now know his heart is set on it and there are other names you love then you could generously let him have it.
Having said that I’m not wild about [name]Orla[/name] with [name]Rory[/name] - I get a bit tongue twisted.

I agree with the other posters it kind of depends on whether he ever said anything before…if the first time he mentioned it was when you told him that was the name you were going to use, and there is no other name that you like as much, then I would say it is yours to use. I agree that [name]Orla[/name] sounds a little too similar to [name]Rory[/name], and I find it somewhat difficult to say. Other ideas:

I agree with the others, you have to weigh how important it is to him vs. you. I think it’s really perfect with [name]Rory[/name] and [name]Ned[/name], though. Does his wife feel the same way about [name]Molly[/name]? If not, you should definitely use it… but if they both love it and want to use it, maybe you shouldn’t… just all depends. I must say I don’t really like [name]Orla[/name] with [name]Rory[/name] and [name]Ned[/name], particularly with [name]Rory[/name]. It just doesn’t fit to me.

If I were you, unless you’re MARRIED to [name]Molly[/name], I’d move on. Otherwise he might be bitter about your newborn daughter and that’s no way to start off life. I know that I have names picked out for my future children that I’ve never discussed with my family because I’m kind of superstitious about that kind of thing. If my brother tried to name his kids one of those I’d be upset and try to get him to change his mind. If it’s really important to you, you can talk to him about it and see if he’s willing to change his mind.
Also, I like [name]Orla[/name] better 
not worth it… move on… even if you had first dibs… which does suck, but relationship w/brother is more important than a name.
