Can I use the name [name]Ronan[/name] if we have a dog named [name]Conan[/name]? My husband doesn’t like many of the Irish names that I do but we both [name]LOVE[/name] this name. Our daughter’s name is [name]Lilah[/name] and I think that would be a great combo. So what do you think?
Hmmmmmmmmmm.
I say sure but it actually is going to be awkward with anyone who knows your dog’s name. I mean if no one knows the dog’s name I think within your family you can deal. But how old is [name]Lilah[/name] and how old is [name]Conan[/name]? I mean I can see this not being an issue with two babes in the house, but when those babes turn into children and notice the rhyme…
Can you rename [name]Conan[/name]? That’s something that’s been suggested on here before for people in a similar dilemma. While the dog probably knows his name, you probably use it more for getting his attention, right? Most dogs can still follow a command without their name, so that could help. If he’ll follow “come”, “sit”, and “heel” without “[name]Conan[/name]” before those words (or if he doesn’t follow any commands at all : D), then I’m not sure how hard it’d really be. I propose [name]Coco[/name], O’[name]Brien[/name], or Barbarian.
I love [name]Ronan[/name]. It might make people chuckle if they know your dog’s name, but no big deal. If it bothers you too much choose another name or use [name]Ronan[/name] in the middle. Maybe [name]Roan[/name] could be an option.
[name]Ronan[/name] is one of my favorite baby names of all time. While it is slightly embarrassing to have a dog called [name]Conan[/name], I think it would still work out. As it was mentioned before, maybe you can give [name]Conan[/name] a nickname? He could be Cone or [name]Coco[/name] (as mentioned above). I wouldn’t give up on using something as adorable and perfect as [name]Ronan[/name] just because of your dog’s name. [name]Lilah[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name] is really nice. If it still bothers you, you could try an alternative to [name]Ronan[/name], such as [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Roland[/name], [name]Roman[/name], or [name]Roan[/name]. I really like [name]Ronan[/name] best out of those but you may want to consider an option that sounds like [name]Ronan[/name].
I think they are too close. Maybe try calling for [name]Ronan[/name] and see if the dog comes to you.
I really like the name [name]Ronan[/name]. If it’s the only name you and your husband can agree on, I would consider changing the dog’s name or calling him by a nn…[name]Coe[/name]/Co, [name]Coco[/name], [name]Caden[/name], [name]Cian[/name]/[name]Kian[/name], [name]Corin[/name]. Of course, this depends on the dogs age. I got my dog when she was 1 year old and had to change her name because she had the same name as my SO’s mom :P. I picked a name with the same ending and I don’t think she even noticed.
What about [name]Roland[/name], [name]Roman[/name] or [name]Rowan[/name]? They are close to [name]Ronan[/name].
I say use it if you really love the name, I don’t think the dog name situation is a big deal plus you could start calling the dog [name]Coe[/name] or [name]Coco[/name], something like that if it does bother you.
My husband and I are in the same dilemma right now. We used [name]Charlie[/name] for our dog and are regretting it 5 years later as it is the only name we both like for our baby boy. Your situation is a little different…I say go for it. [name]Ronan[/name] is a adorable and it sounds awesome with [name]Lilah[/name]. Rename your dog if necessary.
My friend named her daughter after her beloved childhood dog.
Absolutely!
Thanks for the suggestion. Our daughter will be 19 months when this little one is born and our dog is three years old. So name change might actually work. Funny enough the evening I posted this my husband made the very same suggestion.
I have a [name]Ronan[/name], so I definitely think you should use this name. Our [name]Ronan[/name] is almost 5, and it is the perfect name for him. I would give your dog a nickname and start using it exclusively. For [name]Conan[/name], perhaps CeeCee, [name]CoCo[/name] or some other dog name.
Good luck!
