Can Lily work as a nickname for Cecily?

Can [name]Lily[/name] work as a nickname for [name]Cecily[/name]? Is there another nickname you think works better?

note: I do not like [name]Cece[/name].

You could always call a child whatever you want as a nickname, but structurally it doesn’t work. No one would really get it, unfortunately. But like I said, nicknames are anything goes. Yeah, it’s a tricky name for nicknames…I’m stumped.

Why not? If [name]Lola[/name] can work as a nn for [name]Viola[/name], then why can’t [name]Lily[/name] work for [name]Cecily[/name]? I do agree it’s a bit contrived (I think [name]Viola[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] is a bit contrived), but it works. Why not. I’m not the hugest [name]Cece[/name] fan, either, but I do like [name]Celie[/name] (SEE-lee, sort of like [name]Seeley[/name]), and I think Cessy (to rhyme with [name]Tessie[/name]) is pretty cute, too, or even [name]Cissy[/name]. I read a novella whose main character was [name]Cecelia[/name], nn [name]Cissy[/name], and that always stuck with me. I don’t like the idea of [name]Sissy[/name] as a nn, but somehow, [name]Cissy[/name] changes it; I think it’s rather cute.

Good luck!

I think it works okay. It’s certainly not an obvious one though. Maybe with a mn that begins with an L.
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Lane[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name] [name]Lyra[/name]

I don’t see it sorry. Partly because [name]Lily[/name] is such a popular name in its own right. I do like the [name]Cissy[/name] suggestion though.

I love [name]Cecily[/name], and I encourage you to use it. It’s nice, natural, refreshing, interesting and lovely name. You could call her [name]Lily[/name], but you don’t need to name her [name]Cecily[/name].
