Can siblings be classic/traditional and modern/trendy?

I have a 2 year boy named [name_u]Flynn[/name_u].
Our other option for [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] was [name_u]James[/name_u] which is a classic. We are expecting baby boy number 2 and still love [name_u]James[/name_u]. However it has a completely different feel to [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. It doesn’t match! My question is does it matter? Should we use a name we agree on and love or look at similar styles to [name_u]Flynn[/name_u].
Such as:

[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]

I would say [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u] are absolutely fine together. They are different styles, but both short, one syllable, 5 letters, not unusual, easy to say and spell.
Go with the name you love!

Yes they are different styles, but I don’t see a problem with it. I know several families where one child is given a more classic name and another is given a more modern name, it’s no big deal. You love [name_u]James[/name_u], use it!

I think they sound fine together! They may technically be two different styles, but [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds a lot better than, say, I dunno… [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]. That sounds like a bit more stark than [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u].

Absolutely use [name_u]James[/name_u]! I disagree with many berries that siblings’ names should always be of the same style… It can get boring, especially with more than 3 kiddos.
For example, my cousins (in one family) are [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Jared[/name_m], and [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]. Notice a pattern much? They’ve all got traditional, J, Bible names.
I am the only one (of four) kids in my family that DOESN’T have a traditional Biblical name. Honestly it bugged me a bit as a kid, until I realized that there was no Biblical name I genuinely preferred on its own merits to my own. And my name does ‘fit in’ to the family in other ways.
[name_u]James[/name_u] may not be as trendy as [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], but that’s just looking at things from a fixed point in time (now.) The whole idea of a classic ([name_u]James[/name_u]) is that it’s never out of style and never a bad choice. So that makes it compatible with a name from any other category of name, so long as the name in question is sound-compatible. (ie not Ames)
Does that make sense?
[name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] are both handsome, strong names. And your sons may appreciate that their names are distinct… not matchy-matchy.
Good luck!

I think it works. Yes, they are different styles, but [name_u]James[/name_u] is timeless, [name_f]IMO[/name_f], and both [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] are strong, one-syllable, five-letter names.

[name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] are from different styles but I think they have enough things in common that the difference isn’t too jarring.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are strong names
[name_m]Both[/name_m] one-syllable names
[name_m]Both[/name_m] are five letters in length
And what some people forget, [name_u]James[/name_u] is also a surname like [name_u]Flynn[/name_u].

I think it sounds fine too. [name_u]James[/name_u] is so versatile that it works!

I think they sound great together. They are not that different like [name_m]Braden[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_m]George[/name_m]. You should use the names you love.

Thanks for the positive replies. I never actually looked at them both being 5 letters and one syllable. I always just thought about the style!
I’m pretty sure we will go with [name_u]James[/name_u].
