Can Sunny stand on its own?

I know the opinions will differ greatly on this name, but I want to hear what you all think of the girl’s name [name]Sunny[/name] as a full name. My husband loves it; I am hesitant even though it brings wonderful thoughts to mind and fits well with our other kids’ names. So go ahead, give me the good and the bad!

It can stand on it’s own, but I think it might look trite on a resume. I just like to think of what would look professional in the future. Dr. [name]Sunny[/name]… etc.

Thanks! I think about that too.

No, definitely not. I think it’s extremely nicknamey. The good news, though, is that I don’t think it has to sound like the full name- [name]Sunny[/name], in my opinion, could work just as well for [name]Jane[/name] as it could for [name]Susannah[/name]. It’s almost a term of endearment to me, which makes it unsuitable as a full name.

I think [name]Sunny[/name] is charming and works just fine as a stand-alone name. As to the Dr. [name]Sunny[/name] thing, I know a Dr. [name]Tiffany[/name] and a Dr. [name]Bambi[/name] (a nuclear physicist-- really!), so for me it’s a non-issue. If you want to give her a nobler middle name to balance it out, that’s fine-- she can always put that on her resume and say “Call me [name]Sunny[/name]” at her interview. (Is it strange that I’m giving job search advice for a fetus?)

I think it’s better as a nickname, as I feel a person named [name]Sunny[/name] would have a hard time being taken seriously in the professional world. It is really cute though and it could work as either a generic nickname (for say a child with a sunny personality or really blonde hair) or as a short form for any names that start with [name]Su[/name]- or So-. Personally, I’ve always liked it as a nickname for [name]Sonia[/name].

Some other suggestions:
[name]Susan[/name]
[name]Suzanne[/name]/[name]Suzannah[/name]
Sunniva (“sun gift”)
[name]Soleil[/name] (“sun”)
Solaris (“of the sun”

I knew a [name]Sunshine[/name] that went by [name]Sunny[/name]. She wasn’t super “sunny” but I love the name!

Not really a fan of just [name]Sunny[/name], what if she turns out to have a personality that is not like sunshine? I know if I were named [name]Sunny[/name] it would be a big joke.
I also think it doesn’t translate well into a serious adult name.

Very cute to use as a nickname though so ibhope there is a name you like that would get you that!

I’ve always loved the idea of naming a girl [name]Sunshine[/name] and calling her [name]Sunny[/name]. There was a tv show in the 80’s called A Year in the Life and the main character was a pretty teen girl named this.

I absolutely adore the name [name]Sunny[/name]! I think you should go for it! The name is so cute spelled [name]Sunny[/name] or [name]Sonny[/name]. [name]Love[/name] it!

I’ve know several Sunils who have gone by [name]Sunny[/name]. It’s quite common in Vancouver (where it isn’t very sunny, so perhaps it’s wishful thinking?). I think if your child has a sunny personality, sunny would work with any name.

A good friend of mine is named [name]Sunny[/name] and she’s had no problem with her name, so I know it can definitely stand on its own. But for my personal taste I prefer it as a nickname.

I like the name Sunny, but prefer it as a nickname. My favourite suggestion for ‘full’ name for Sunny, is Susannah! I wouldn’t used Sunil though, as it’s a boy’s name.

I would personally want a longer name for myself. Options are nice.

But you can always call her [name]Sunny[/name] and let her choose the formal name herself when she’s older.

My parents named me [name]Alison[/name] with the intention to call me [name]Sunny[/name] as a nickname. I do not think [name]Sunny[/name] can stand on it’s own, it’s a nickname. Plus it doesn’t suit every child. I think there are lots of formal names that you could give your child and nickname her [name]Sunny[/name]…if it suits her personality. It also doesn’t age well. It could work for children and older women but not necessarily for young or middle aged adults in the work place.

I think [name]Sunny[/name] can stand on it’s own. I know 2 [name]Sunny[/name]'s. [name]Both[/name] are of Korean descent where that name is pretty common. I believe they both were named for their Grandmothers. They only complaint that I have heard from either is that you have to go to a Korean store to find personilized things with [name]Sunny[/name] on them.

Hmmm, I think it could work. I know and adult who goes by [name]Sunny[/name], and it’s nice on her. Her full name is actually [name]Sunshine[/name] [name]Angel[/name] hehe  But I think it’s a definite possibility she would grow up to hate it, so I would be wary. If you did use it, I think a longer or more serious middle would be best, I like [name]Sunny[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]. But if not, there are a lot of names you could use it as a nickname for like the pp’s have said. I like [name]Sonia[/name], [name]Susanna[/name], and [name]Sienna[/name]. [name]Even[/name] something like [name]Savannah[/name] or [name]Simone[/name] could work

I knew a girl named [name]Sunny[/name] in high school. I’m not sure what she grew up to do, but [name]Sunny[/name] always suited her personality perfectly! If you love it, go for it.

Thank you everyone! I think it’s so funny how polarized the opinions are on this name. [name]Love[/name] it or hate it kind of thing. I really appreciate all of the feedback. IF we were to go with the name, it would be [name]Sunny[/name] [name]Alice[/name]. I do love [name]Susanna[/name] nn [name]Sunny[/name] but none of our other kids have such long, formal first names.

So, looks like I’m still stumped, but like I said, I REALLY appreciate the feedback!
