My husband and I have finally whittled our list of names for our baby girl down to 5, but we can’t decide on a final choice! Even getting down to 2 would be great, and then we can decide once she’s here. First baby so we are probably overthinking it!
I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] for different reasons. I find [name_f]Margot[/name_f] to be quite spunky and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] to be peaceful/calming.
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] (means “life”) : Short and sweet; The only possible downside to this name is that people may automatically assume that [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is short for [name_f]Zoey[/name_f], which isn’t a bad thing. It’s just something to be aware of.
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] (means “helper, defender” ) Easy to say, easy to spell, very nickname-able (Ali, [name_u]Lexi[/name_u], etc.)
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] (means “pearl”)- This name is too vintage for my taste but I love the meaning behind it.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] (means “purple”): Perfect mix of sweet and edgy; [name_f]Vi[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] would be a cute nn
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (means “the hazelnut tree”): Very earthy and romantic sounding; only nickname I can think of is [name_u]Haze[/name_u] [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorite is [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorites are [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], but I’ve listed thoughts on each.
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning. It’s trendy but also ancient and well-established. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is the original, [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] is technically the more popular spelling which might be a hassle.
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] - This is my least favorite on your list because it feels the most dated to me. I went to school with so many Alex’s and Alexis’s.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - Spelling might be an issue again, but this is a solid choice. Classy and interesting.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - Sweet and vintage. Definitely spiking in popularity, but there’s not too many similar-sounding names so I don’t think it feels ubiquitous.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], so warm and earthy. Also spiking in popularity, though. I love the nickname [name_f]Zelie[/name_f] but [name_u]Haze[/name_u] seems more likely.
I absolutely love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! A perfect mix of vintage charm and lovely nature imagery. That would definitely be my pick [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is my second choice, with [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] rounding out my top three!
[name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] - a picture perfect pretty name but so common as an alternative grunge type name that unfortunately I would not be inclined to pick it as a first. There’s no doubt some beautiful namesakes for your daughter though if this is the one you choose… [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] Kravitz, [name_u]Zooey[/name_u] Deschanel, [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] Saldana to name a few. Perhaps try [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] spelt [name_f]Zoie[/name_f], i think that is more favorable
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] - sorry but no no no. Too many Alexis’ I know, she may end up being one of 5 in her class. Oh, and I personally think it’s too close to Amazon’s [name_f]Alexa[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - pretty, timeless and common enough to not be a weird one but rare enough to be a fresh statement. Comes with another pretty namesake because of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Robbie[/name_u]!
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - one of the best color names imo. [name_f]May[/name_f] do better as a middle.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] I think it sounds timeless and isn’t too frequent but also not too unheard of
Violet and Margot get my initial votes. Is there a middle name picked out. Also are there any clues you can give us about her last name… often those help narrow things down greatly due to flow and such.
Based off of [name_u]Ryder[/name_u] I actually change my top two choices to [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_u]Alexis[/name_u]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is honestly my favorite of all the names I will just say my only hesitation is that [name_u]Ryder[/name_u] audibly sounds like “rider” so [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] then come off sounding more like adjectives then they do names when paired with [name_u]Ryder[/name_u]. I did take away [name_f]Margot[/name_f] because the R emphasis on both [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_u]Ryder[/name_u] make it seem a tad off when compared to the other choices.
And I completely apologize for not proofreading before posting above. I was autocorrected- it was supposed to say “is there a middle name picked out” not a “nickname”
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Ryder[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Ryder[/name_u], or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Ryder[/name_u] - I think all sound good.
