My husband and I came up with a name list that we’re happy with - too happy with. Which makes it harder for us to choose. Below are a few names, in order of preference, for our future baby girl. I’ve consulted a number of boards - we’re trying to keep this a secret from family.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f] (Italian for [name_f]Joy[/name_f], pronounces [name_f]Joya[/name_f])
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]- Beautiful classic
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - I like the unusual vibe but its easy to pronounce.
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]- A stunning classic
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f]- I love the meaning and pronunciation but I would be confused how to say this one if you didn’t clarify.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - same as below
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f] - Both these share first place, I think they’re both equally beautiful and classic
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f] - I really like this one too
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - I think as a Scandinavian this is a very common mom and grandmother name and the name of a lot of teachers. But I understand that it might be a fresh and pretty name in other countries.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - nice, classic but not overused
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f], but nothing wrong with it
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - I agree with the previous poster, because I’m Scandinavian as well. This name sounds very middle aged to me.
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f] - I think this is my favorite, even though it’s not my usual style. It sounds fresh and elegant.
Thank you all. This is really hard. I appreciate all of your insights. I’m happy to see [name_f]Gioia[/name_f] is so well-received here. It’s not my husband’s favourite but it was for me for a long time. His reservation about it is that he sometimes uses it as a term of endearment for my toddler. It’s tough.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - elegant and strong, lovely
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f] - nice, prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - strong, beautiful - just amazing
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f] - confusing pronunciation and I’m not a fan anyway
I think I prefer [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] slightly more than [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], nut its up to you. Saying that, the combo [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is gorgeous.
I love [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]! [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is pretty, but I think of it as a more middle-aged name (although it may not seem that way in English-speaking countries). [name_f]Gioia[/name_f] is pretty, but I think many people would find it hard to pronounce.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]: This is positively stunning. I love the placidity and sweet vibe.
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]: A definite classic, this name is unique and strong.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]: More modern than some of your names on the list, but it’s celestial, refined, and beautiful.
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f]: My favorite on your list. This is absolutely stunning. I love the meaning, the elegant yet strong feel, and its uniqueness. It truly has everything.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the strong, starry sound of this name and the [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] Lindgren connection. We have considered this for each of our children.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]: A little bit sweeter and girlier than [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], but still sophisticated and celestial with an unusual ending sound, which I like (sooo many -a or -ee ending sounds for girls).
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]: [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] sound, but very “of the moment” where I am. I do really like this spelling, but choosing a less-common spelling variant is likely to lead to issues with spelling and pronunciation.
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f]: Lively sound and great meaning, but this one feels more “foreign” to me than the others, even though none is of English origin. Of course, that’s not a problem in itself, it just means that people may be less familiar with this name than the others on your list, and again might struggle with spelling and pronunciation.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]: This is such a beautiful, refined name. Definite favorite from your list. [name_f]Melodic[/name_f], familiar yet relatively unheard of.
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]: Although I prefer the [name_f]Margo[/name_f] spelling, this is a really sweet vintage name.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]: I went to school with an [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], lovely name.
[name_f]Gioia[/name_f]: I really like the meaning and sound of this name but wouldn’t personally use due to the spelling/pronunciation issues that will likely follow little [name_f]Gioia[/name_f].
It looks like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is leading a little bit now (although I haven’t done a tally of it all).
I appreciate how some of you have picked up on the celestial theme of a couple names here. That’s something that appeals to us. I think the we’ll ultimately land on [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]. I don’t find many middle names go well with it, but that doesn’t bother me much. We will likely go with either [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Margaux[/name_f], or [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] Gioia. FYI - she will have a very long, Italian last name.
Thank you. It’s interesting [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] is popular where you are. Like the others, it’s virtually unheard of among the younger generation here in Toronto, [name_f]Canada[/name_f]. I think it’s such a cool name.
