Can’t find a name!

We find out if it’s a boy or girl in less than 2 weeks. I know it’s not technically a big deal and that we have time (and that it may be a boy!), but I cannot for the life of me find a girl name that is “right.”

My DD is [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. I just “knew” my daughter would be [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

Boy name picked out is [name_m]Declan[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m].

Middle will likely be [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] because we both like this name, but it’s too common for us to put it as first.

Looking for something not overly popular in southern US, prefer 2 syllables, no nicknames, not ending in “-ee” sound.

Girls names we have considered:

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - I keep coming back to it but just worry so much about confusion with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] - my grandmothers name. I like it but don’t love it and it seems like to much L with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] - like this one, but someone I work closely with is also pregnant and we are like 2 months apart and she has chosen this name

[name_f]Cora[/name_f] - just dont like it 🤷”*♀”

[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] - DH doesn’t like

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - DH doesn’t like

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - husband really likes, but I can’t get
around it. Seems too much like a nick name and I try to avoid names that end in “-ee” bc our last name ends in y/that sound

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]- meh

And many more.

Help me out! :persevere:

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Alyse[/name_f], or [name_f]Thea[/name_f]?

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is my favorite, but I understand how it might be a mouthful next to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I don’t think it would be a deal breaker for me, but since you don’t love it, I’m not sure fighting to get past its closeness with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is necessary!

I think, however, it is worth it to discuss this worry you have about [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]! Firstly, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is great. For what it’s worth, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is also much more visually appealing to me than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Secondly, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is a name in its own right, not that much more unfamiliar than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is ranked inside the top 100 in the U.S. for 2017. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is ranked #7. Plus, with Game of Thrones actress [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_m]Clarke[/name_m], it’s just going to get more distinguishable from [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

You have to think if you would be frustrated by that if it were your name. If you think it would be too annoying, I would pass. If you think it would be worth it, or not that big of a deal, I’d go with it. If you’re unsure, maybe try a few tests, using it as your own name in certain settings like Starbucks, etc. I personally think it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. It’s a different name, and though it’s pronounced basically the same, most people by this point probably have to spell their names on the phone and such.

I would nix the names that you don’t like or that he doesn’t like. That will really help narrow it down. The ones you really hesitate to cross off, I mean really really don’t want to let go of, look at those again. But I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is your one, especially if you both like it.

Thanks for replying!

[name_f]Willa[/name_f] - seems too nick namey, like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] to me

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - I like it but DH doesn’t

[name_f]Stella[/name_f] - all I think of stelllllaaaaa and the dog from modern family ”

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - BFF’s DD’s name and my niece is [name_f]Claire[/name_f]

[name_f]Alyse[/name_f] - like but don’t love

[name_f]Thea[/name_f] - I like this but DH doesn’t

Thank bassilly! I think you are right about [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. It’s the only one I “feel” anything for… I’m going to try it as my name like you suggested and see what happens. And I have a super common 80’s baby name and still have to spell it every time haha

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Della[/name_f] strikes me immediately as a good option. Maybe [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Portia[/name_f], or [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] as well?

What about [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] ?

From your list I like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] the best.

I like your husband’s suggestion of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I am biased though because we have a [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

[name_f]Lillia[/name_f] ([name_u]Lee[/name_u]-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-uh) is probably your best bet.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]? [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is beautiful, goes well with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and you can use the nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].

I really like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

I feel like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a multifaceted name. It’s classic but feels very current. Being floral it’s girly, but also has kind of an edge. Familiar but not painfully common. I would decide on what aspects of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] you wish to carry on and let that help steer you.
