I’m curious if [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] could work as a subtle honor to the name [name_m]Kevin[/name_m]? Both names seem to have a few meanings but share the meaning of “handsome/attractive”. I’ve also seen [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] listed as meaning “son of Kenneth” and [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] also means “handsome”. I don’t mind that it’s a bit of a stretch but considering the shared meaning and shared Gaelic origins I’m wondering if it works?
As a subtle honour, sure!
If it works for you then yeah!
It’s one that you’d have to explain but it’s definitely not fanciful - I think it works.
A very stretchy honour I would say
I think if I was the [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] being honoured I wouldn’t fully understand how [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] honours me in all honesty
@tori101 I get that, I just see a lot of people say “well X means Y so here are some other names that also mean Y” when looking for subtle honors or if they have a tricky name they’re trying to honor so that’s what I was thinking with [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] is all.
I think its one that you will know but other people wont really get
@LittleKingTrashMouth i totally get your way of thinking and I love creative honours but I think it needs to be more direct. I think if it was me I would look at names that mean ‘handsome’ as [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] means ‘son of Kenneth’ I feel it’s just a bit random as to me [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] and [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] are very separate names. Maybe [name_m]Keefe[/name_m] could be an idea? [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_m]Kavanagh[/name_m] or [name_m]Kavanaugh[/name_m]?
It doesn’t particularly work for me honestly.
@hellobanjo That’s ok with me and honestly kind of what I’d be going for. I like names with subtle links to people or things I find important but different enough that the kid would still have their own name. I think I would use it more as “his middle name is [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]. Oh by the way, dad (Kevin), your names share the same meaning which is cool” but I wouldnt be like “this is [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] and he’s named after you”. So maybe asking if it works as an honor name was the wrong way to word this question.
As a subtle honor I think it works! It’s probably not one people would make the connection on unless you told them. But if it has meaning to you, then that’s what matters!
