I’ve liked [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] a lot for several years, but mainly as a middle because I didn’t like the tie to The [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] Letter (I understand it’s artistic merit but I just never liked the novel lol). But it just massively (almost explosively!) grew on me yesterday, and I have been seriously considering it.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]? Any nickname possibilities? The only obvious ones I could think of were [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f] or [name_f]Perla[/name_f], and [name_f]Perla[/name_f] seems less of a nn than a pet name, as it’s more syllables than [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], and no more letters. I’m a nicknamer though, and feel like I’d need something. All I can think of so far is [name_f]Pippi[/name_f], which is really only very loosely tied to [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]'s first initial.
So far I’ve only considered [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] (which I like a lot!), [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. I also like (but am not sure I love) [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. I’m open to suggestions.
I really love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as well. As far as nicknames go, why not just “Pea” (pronounced simply as the letter P)?
You’re not going to find a nickname shorter than the full name, because the full name is only one syllable; So I think it’s less about shortening the name and more about finding a sweet pet name for the little one you love so much! I know a [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] who is called [name_f]Pearly[/name_f], [name_f]Pearly[/name_f]-Whirly, Swirly, Swirls, [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Pea, [name_f]Polly[/name_f] etc. The possibilities are endless, it doesn’t need to “make sense”. Good luck!
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is not a name that I would pick myself, but I do agree that it is rather pretty. There is something very soft and feminine about it.
My preferred nn is probably [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f], especially for a little girl. It’s too cute!
From your list, I really love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]. Very pretty!
I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], it’s one of my absolute favourites. I had it on my list for our baby, but DH isn’t a fan. He can agree with it as a middle name though. I probably wouldn’t use it as a first name anyway, because here in Belgium people would have trouble pronouncing it.
I can’t think of any nicknames besides [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f] - which I love, but I admit it’s very cutesy.
I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] would be pretty.
I adore [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and the nn [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f] (very cute!). I think Pea also works. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is just awesome, very beautiful and very [name_u]June[/name_u] (you know what I mean).
Oh I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! It is so elegant and charming. I do prefer it more as a mn, but your [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] is stunning! [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is pretty, too.
The only nn I came up with is ‘Sweet Pea’ Or [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f]/[name_f]Pearly[/name_f], but I don’t really like that.
I love [name_f]Luneth[/name_f]'s suggestion of Pea!
I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]! It flows so well, and I’ve always LOVED [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] is pretty unexpected with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], and really makes the name a bit edgier.
Pearl is a lovely name! It’s my middle name but I sometimes wished it was my first because Katherine is so common. I’m with you on loving nicknames, but this one is certainly difficult… my parents call me “Pea” (“P”?) sometimes, that’s the only direct nickname I can think of.
In this situation I would advise throwing rules and conventions out the window and getting a little creative. For example, you could just use any nickname you like that starts with P- Posy, Pipp, Pippa, Pippin, Polly, Poppy, etc. Or you could go for something more abstract. The French Marguerite literally means “pearl” but is the word for “daisy”, which is why Daisy is a nickname for the English Margaret. You could also appropriate Daisy as a nickname or backtrack this connection and use another nickname for Margaret, like Meg. Or Peggy, which also starts with a P!
Following this example, you can follow Pearl’s associated meanings and get nicknames from there. A “pearl of great price”= Price or Precious. Pearls are white= Blanche, Snow, Snowy, Alba, Dove… Pearls come from the sea= Sandy, Maris, Marnie, etc… You can justify almost any nickname you want with this method XD
My vote goes to Pea, Pipp, Polly, Peggy, Daisy, and Price.
If all of that is too much of a stretch to get you on board, I would advise using a nickname-able middle name and just using those nicknames or combining them with Pearl. My aunts are fond of calling me Katie Pearl, you could do something similar.
Thanks, @emmamay! I help sponsor an adorable little girl in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] with my church’s youth group named [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], and I’ve wanted to get her name on my list for eons but it just hasn’t happened yet. I sort of feel guilty because I sponsor a little girl in [name_u]Peru[/name_u], too, and her first name is [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. I love them both equally but it seems sort of biased that Arumy’s fn is my absolute [name_m]FAVORITE[/name_m] girls name but I can’t even get [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]'s name on.
I don’t find [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f] very cute, either, to be honest! Sweet Pea is kind of cute, though.
I think I’m not feeling [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] quite so much as I had been, even though I have grown to [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] most of the things [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] reminds me of. Maybe I can use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] or [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] as a double middle somewhere?
Oh my goodness, [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is stunning! It sounds gorgeous, I am very impressed. I must say, I really like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as a first name. I hope with its increasing popularity in the middle that it doesn’t end up like poor [name_f]Rose[/name_f], always a middle, never a first. As far as nicknames, there’ only so much you can do with one syllable, obviously. I think [name_u]Perry[/name_u] would be cute, or even Pear. If it were me, I could picture calling her Pearlette or Pearlescent or something, haha. I like Pear the best as a “short” form.
That’s really sweet that you use your sponsor children’s names! I love that:)
I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]/[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] would work really well as a double middle with the right first name. Or [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] works just as well (idk if you like [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] as a fn).
I like the nickname [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f], and I love how creative the nickname [name_f]Pippi[/name_f] is! I love [name_f]Pippi[/name_f]! I also am in love with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], and I agree nicknames are hard, so I believe [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f] and [name_f]Pippi[/name_f] are cute. From your list, I like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]. I would suggest [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Anabel[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] Angelise and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
