Husband and I have been struggling with names for #3. We always struggle. But this time we chose not to find out the sex so we are struggling x2…
Walking around [name_f]Vegas[/name_f] last night and pass a restaurant “[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] [name_u]Puck[/name_u].” My husband jokingly says “[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]?!”
Well, jokes on him, because I immediately fell in love. HARD.
Strong, rich history, beautiful imagery comes into my mind. I played piano throughout my childhood - so of course the [name_m]Mozart[/name_m] connection is wonderful to me. The nickname [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is perfection. Not to mention Nobel Prize wining theoretical physicist [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] [name_m]Pauli[/name_m] (husband is a science guy - we named first son after Sir [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Newton[/name_m].)
Husband loves the name but he feels it is unusable. TOO badass. Might set him up for teasing?
I feel like it’s actually a name that kids would love.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you guys feel about the name? Is it usable in your opinion? Thoughts?
I like it and it’s certainly useable! A few years ago it would have raised eyebrows for me, but now I feel it is mainstream enough and known, but uncommon so that he wouldn’t have to share it with a lot of others. It doesn’t feel badass to me and I love the nn [name_m]Wolf[/name_m].
I agree with the previous poster. [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is definitely usable. A big plus, for me, is the connection to [name_m]Mozart[/name_m]. The name is obviously full of history and there have been a ton of badass people who have shared that name.
Well, I am [name_m]German[/name_m], so I might be a bit biased. BUT I’d say:Go for it! It is definitely usable, I know quiet a few people with that name (I guess it’s more common over here). I do not at all connect this name with being too badass. For me, [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is someone extremely likable, caring, generous, sophisticated, just generally gifted. The connections to history are a definite plus and it sounds like there are quiet a few very positive personal connections for you, which I think is important. I also like how the nn [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] gives the name a completely different (but equally positive) feel. Go for it! I can think of no reason why you shouldn’t!
Tell your husband he really shouldn’t worry about the teasing. your son could be called [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but might still be teased. If kids (and even adults, come to think of that) want to tease someone, they’ll always find something. So not giving your son the name you love really doesn’t help.
Good luck!
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is a nice, strong name. However, it is too adventurous for a first name in my opinion. I think it would make for a lovely middle name, and I especially love the [name_m]Mozart[/name_m] connections. If used as a first name, I can see how he could be teased for it. I would personally reserve it for a middle name, but if you fall in love with it, a nickname like [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] may make it more usable.
Go for it! I know of a couple who named their son [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] a few months back, and it has only received positive feedback so far. [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and Wolfie make it accessible to both adults and children, and the name itself is majestic.
