Can you connect Van der __ names to make one?

As in the question being. Is it deemed as possible to connect the [name_u]Van[/name_u] der names such as [name_u]Van[/name_u] der Bilt. Creating, Vanderbilt? I have a beautiful name in mind that would make a wonderful surname but need to get the idea if it is normal too?

Thank you for the help

I think it definitely would be an unusual name but on the other side a lot of surnames are being used as first names today. So why not go for it if you like it.

I am trying to create a new surname as a joining of the [name_u]Van[/name_u] der, as that of Vanderbilt. I was just wondering if it is normal

Sorry, my bad. But I guess that would work too!

I have a friend whose surname is [name_m]Von[/name_m] der Embse, but some people in her family use Vonderembse instead. I also know [name_u]Van[/name_u] den Bergs who have family members that use Vandenberg. It’s definitely doable.

I would say it isn’t uncommon for [name_u]Van[/name_u] der ___ names to become Vander___.

In other words, go for it!
