Based from real-life escape rooms, this is a virtual one. Now like most escape rooms, this escape room has 1 hour to complete. However it’s not a real hour, how the time passes is based on how you answer the trivia. The game doesn’t need a perfect score to pass the escape room, but you will want to answer as closely as possible. The farther your answer is to the correct answer, the more minutes will be spent in the escape room. You may use a Calculator to subtract the minutes you spend. It gets slightly harder with each task to maintain time but having a keen sense can save a lot. [name_f]Remember[/name_f] not to spend more than 60 minutes total or you’re trapped FOREVER! No, but if you do, the game will end for you unfortunately. [name_m]Just[/name_m] kidding lol, but be careful and good luck!
Only tap this after 60+ minutes have passed during any task and you were unable to escape in time.
YOU ARE LOCKED IN HERE FOREVERRRRR!! Sorry! Despite making it to (number of tasks until you went over 60min) tasks, you unfortunately couldn’t beat the clock. Hey, those tasks can be quite tricky and you gave it your best shot. You played an amazing game and I hope you enjoyed it, better luck next time! Game over but good game.
You enter the escape room. There’s a timer set for 60:00. The door closes and the timer starts ticking down. There is a giant locked chest on the table. The combination lock has four digits and you are trying to crack it. What you see is a subtle hint: “Nameberry” printed on the door you just entered from. This will help you find the code because the code is when Nameberry was launched. But when was that?
When did Nameberry launch?
A. 2005 - Your think 2005, and you enter that in with no luck. This is difficult for you and you struggle with other codes, before correctly inputting “2008” and opening the chest. You have spent 8 minutes so far, leaving you with 52 minutes remaining.
B. 2007 - Your choice is 2007, and you enter that in with no luck. You calmly take a deep breath and then input “2008”, opening the chest. You have spent 4 minutes so far, leaving you with 56 minutes remaining.
C. 2008 - Your combination is 2008, and you enter that in successfully! Your chest is unlocked and you eagerly see what’s inside for your next task. You have spent 2 minutes so far, leaving you with 58 minutes remaining.
D. 2010 - You chose 2010, but you enter that in with no luck. You try to retrace your steps and try inputting “2008”, then opening the chest. You have spent 6 minutes so far, leaving you with 54 minutes remaining.
Your chest is open! Covering the other items is a world map, but the countries have no labels and part of it appears to be scratched off. I announce in the room that a country that was scratched off has the girl names “Roza” and “Cvita” and the boy names “Borna” and “Lovre” exclusively on the Top 50 baby names according to its Nameberry list. You must shout back which country this is and because this is exclusive, that means these 4 names don’t show up on any other country’s top 50 list. Because this is a geography question, the closer geographically your answer is to the correct answer, the fewer minutes you spend.
Which country do you shout?
A. CROATIA - You look over the names and look at the map, remembering what was scratched out. After deliberating, you shout “CROATIA” and I shout back “CORRECT”! You have spent 3 minutes.
B. TURKEY - You are having a hard time reading the map with the scratched out information. After deliberating, you nervously shout “TURKEY” and I shout back “TRY AGAIN”! You keep making a few more guesses, look at the map again and try to remember what’s missing, then make more guesses before correctly shouting, “CROATIA!” I shout back, “CORRECT!” You have spent 10 minutes.
C. SLOVENIA - You think about the names and try to find something in common with their origins. You shout “SLOVENIA” and I shout back, “TRY AGAIN!” You look again at the map and shout, “CROATIA”, prompting me to shout back “CORRECT”! You have spent 6 minutes.
D. CZECHIA - You aren’t so sure where to go in terms of what was scratched out. You first shout “CZECHIA” and I shout, “TRY AGAIN!” You quietly think through before you shout “CROATIA” and I shout back “CORRECT”! You have spent 8 minutes.
You pull away the map and empty the chest of everything inside. You see a few books dated back to past decades, written by an author named [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. She appears to be of American and [name_f]British[/name_f] descent. She dedicates all her stories to someone nicknamed [name_f]Jolly[/name_f]. You see a locked box with four keys with “70”, “80”, “00”, and “10” written on them. These correlate to decades and the key that opens is the correct decade.
In which decade was [name_f]Emily[/name_f] the most popular in both the U.S. **and** the U.K.?
1970s - You toss the keys in a rush and frantically use the 70 key to unlock. You try to search for the other keys but are having trouble looking for them. After searching the room for the tossed keys, you find and use the 00 key, unlocking the box. You have spent 12 minutes.
1980s - You decide to try extra hard to unlock the box to make sure you know if a key works. You try the 80 key and it gets stuck! You keep trying to pull it out until it’s off and then try the 00 key, which successfully opens the box. You have spent 10 minutes.
2000s - You try the 00 key, worrying it may be wrong at first when it doesn’t open, but then you give it a good turn to unlock, and you correctly unlock it. You have spent 3 minutes.
2010s - You decide to just try all the keys. Your first choice of the 10 key is incorrect but you realise that it’s the 00 key and it unlocks after inserting the 00 key. You have spent 7 minutes.
You open the box and find a bunch of certain-lettered Scrabble tiles. The L tile appears the most, and you also see some O and Y tiles. You believe these tiles spell out “JOLLY”. But you search around for a J tile and don’t see any. That’s because there aren’t any. However there is one tile, that spells out the first letter of Jolly’s real name, a girl’s name ending in -olly. It happens to be the most common one on Nameberry and the closer you get in popularity, the less time you spend.
Which is the most popular Nameberry girl name ending in -olly?
HOLLY - You spend a lot of time looking for the H letter that you almost forget about the other potential letters. After a repeated search of looking for the H, you still don’t find one…but realise there’s an M letter tile all along. You spend 10 minutes.
DOLLY - You still look for the J tile and spend a lot of time looking for it until you realise it was never a J. You then think it’s a D so you scramble around even further to look for one, but you don’t…however you realise it was an M instead after flipping around the tiles some more. You spend 13 minutes.
MOLLY - You knew it wasn’t really a J tile that would be there but all the O, L, L, Y tiles just frazzle you. You separate the three letters by sorting them out manually until you find one that’s different, and successfully find the M tile! You spend 4 minutes.
POLLY - You’re having some difficulty finding the P tile and stress out trying not to waste time, only to then see it was an M tile. You spend 7 minutes.
A passageway in the escape room opens. You enter it and see lots of nice monogrammed items. The items are marked with all sorts of letters. You go back to the other room and grab the hammer from the chest. You are tasked to look at four urns with letters marked on them. Whoa, who was killed? Don’t worry, no one was, just your time being killed, especially if you’re very off. So don’t be worried by the next thing you have to do - use the hammer to break the urn with the most common first letter for girls’ names in both the U.K. and U.S. The farther away alphabetically your guess is to the correct letter, the more time will be spent.
Which urn should you break?
A urn - You smash the hammer with pride, giving some good swings before grabbing what’s inside. You did it, you smashed the correct urn! You spend 3 minutes.
E urn - You swing and smash the E, but nothing is in that urn. You aim at the A urn next, the correct urn, and smash it, getting what’s inside. You spend 5 minutes.
J urn - You take some hits at J, but your efforts are useless given there’s nothing inside. You swung again, trying for L, before realising it’s A. You smash the A urn and grab what’s inside. You spend 10 minutes.
L urn - You smash L and when it fails, you just repeatedly smash all the urns like a madman. It’s exhilarating and distracts you. This comes to an end after you see that A was the correct urn and you get the loot. You spend 14 minutes.
Inside the correctly-broken urn, you see the [name_u]Irish[/name_u] flag, a marker, and a paper. The paper has the question, “According to the Nameberry blog, [name_u]Irish[/name_u] Names: Rare in the US, how many girls named [name_f]Tuiren[/name_f] were born last year in [name_u]Ireland[/name_u] alone?” You’ll spend more time the farther your guess is to the real answer.
How many [name_u]Irish[/name_u] girls given the name [name_f]Tuiren[/name_f] in 2022?
6 - You write “6” as your answer. I announce that your answer is correct! I tell you to look at the door with “Nameberry” on it for your final test in the escape room, that is – if you have the time to be able to complete the final test. Congratulations! You spend 2 minutes.
21 - You write “21” as your answer. I announce that your answer is incorrect and to try again! You think you’re close so you answer “6” next, and I say you’re correct. I tell you to check the time and if you have enough, to get ready for your final test in the escape room. Congratulations! You spend 8 minutes.
58 - You write “58” as your answer. I announce that your answer is incorrect and to try again! You cross off the answer and write 21, where I say it is still incorrect. You write 6 next, and I say you’re correct. You spend 12 minutes. I tell you that if you have enough time, to look at the door with “Nameberry” on it for your final test in the escape room. Congratulations!
165 - You write “165” as your answer. I announce that your answer is incorrect and to try again! It surprises you a little but you try again until you almost run out of paper space…but thankfully you don’t need much paper space to write a 6. You spend 15 minutes. I remind you to look at the door with “Nameberry” on it again for your final test in the escape room, assuming you haven’t run out of time yet. Congratulations!
It’s time for your final test. Being used to many locks in an escape room, it doesn’t surprise you that the last test is a locked door. This is the door that said, “Nameberry”, the door you entered in. This is the hardest test for a reason, only one answer will give you a quick 1-minute escape, while the other 3 will force an additional 10-minute time penalty onto your time. This isn’t about closeness of answer, it’s about hoping you don’t have 10 minutes straddled on you. Depending on how you did, this could be all or nothing in trying to reach the goal of completing in less than 60 minutes. Good luck!
With the letters of ‘NAMEBERRY’, which of the following four-letter combos is a real name on the database?
BAME - Oh no! You played an amazing game, but unfortunately your choice could not spare you from being penalised. You have gotten a 10-minute time penalty and wait this out before leaving through the door, which will automatically unlock after this penalty is served.
BERA - Good guess, but unfortunately not the right guess. You have gotten a 10-minute time penalty and wait this out before leaving through the door, which will automatically unlock after this penalty is served.
MABY - Despite your best efforts, the penalty has occurred. That is not correct, sorry. You have gotten a 10-minute time penalty and wait this out before leaving through the door, which will automatically unlock after this penalty is served.
RANE - Congratulations! You passed! [name_u]Amazing[/name_u] guess, well done! You didn’t fall for the traps of the final test. You managed to find the only one of the four to be a true database name. You have spent one minute and the door has unlocked immediately after you answered.
So if you haven’t gotten overtime-busted on a previous task, you have reached the end! Well done, no matter how many minutes it took, after all these are fictional minutes anyway. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to say how long or how little this took to escape and hope you’re having a fabulous day!
Only tap this if you were able to make it out in 60 or fewer minutes.
Congrats! You are out of the Escape Room! After (number of minutes you spent) minutes of doing the Nameberry tasks and trying to escape the room, you made it out! Great thinking and tremendous skill, you clobbered this challenge like a beast! Good game and well done!
