We’re trying to decide on a girl name for my daughter [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and I keep going back and forth! I had a top three, then I blew that up and started broadening again, trying to find something I really like. In an ideal world, I would find a name that is easy to spell, familiar but fresh sounding, and not too overused (hopefully not in the top 100.) [name_m]Even[/name_m] more ideally, also a nature or object name like [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
I haven’t decided on middles yet. They could either be family surnames ([name_u]Sinclair[/name_u], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]) or family first names (most likely [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Jane[/name_f].) Last name sounds similar to McKeely.
Here are the current eight favorites I have. I’d love to knock it back down to three. Thanks so much for any feedback!
*Edited to add - I know I’m trying to narrow down, but I’m also open to any suggestions if you think of any that would fit my style based on these choices! Thanks!
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] seems to fit the bill almost entirely. Ranked at #567 in 2016 it’s uncommon but definitely well known as a name, easy to spell, fresh because it’s relatively unused at the moment and is definitely reaching revival point (you’d be setting the trend not following) and a it’s word name like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] would be stunning and unusual.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] is another top contender. At #456 it’s far less common than the very similar name [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (#73) and still sounds fresh. I’d possibly say [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is a bit fresher than [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], as some people may still view [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as an ‘old lady name’ - though [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is definitely ‘on trend’ where as [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is slightly ahead of the curve (at least to my mind). [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are gorgeous together, slightly more predictable that some of the other options, but still a great choice. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] also works beautifully.
[name_f]Lark[/name_f] also fits quite nicely, the ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f]’ have a very different vibe to ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]’, but both certainly do the trick in what you’re looking for. [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is much more uncommon than [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - it’s not in the top 1000. I don’t really like [name_f]Lark[/name_f] with any of your middle names which is a downside.
All of your other options are also stunning, but in terms of fitting your criteria, I think these three are the best. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] could be on the list, it’s closest in popularity level to [name_f]Rose[/name_f], it’s got a very modern sound to it, but personally I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is a bit too much ‘plant’ going on.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] would be absolutely gorgeous.
I do also love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
*The name popularity stats are assuming you live in the US - sorry if that’s not the case!
@maerad Thank you SO much, that was so helpful! And yes, I’m in the US, so the numbers apply. Quick question for you! Everyone on nameberry seems to prefer the [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] spelling to [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], but I was leaning [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] for the [name_f]Belle[/name_f] nickname option, just in case we wanted to use that from time to time. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is just as nice as [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], or would it be a deal breaker in your mind to stick to the -belle spelling?
Overall, I’m leaning [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (or [name_f]Lark[/name_f], if we’re bold enough to use it!), but [name_f]Mirabel/name_f is in my top 5, so I thought I’d ask. I love it with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as a middle!
Frankly I love [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] pretty equally. I think with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] does work better because [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] seems overly long and frilly compared to the beautiful-yet-sturdy [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. However it’s certainly not a deal breaker, and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] make a great set. I don’t love it with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as much as I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f], but if you did go with [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], then I think both spellings are gorgeous! (I do have just [name_f]Mira[/name_f] on my list, I’d probably go for [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] myself if I used a longer one!)
I’m torn between [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] - I think I’m swaying slightly towards [name_f]Eve[/name_f] because [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] just sound so fabulous and sleek together. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is lovely but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] has a much more vintage ‘old-worldy’ feel. I do really adore all the names on your list though, I’d say you really can’t choose incorrectly regardless of what you choose.
My picks would be [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. So gorgeous! I do also love the idea of [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] nn [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. Good luck
My top 3 would be:
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] - Stunning! [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] would make a beautiful combo. I love the sleekness of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a sibset.
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] - I prefer this spelling. [name_f]Mira[/name_f] on it’s own would work too.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - Works well with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]! I also like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] :). With [name_f]Rose[/name_f] I love [name_f]Eve[/name_f]! [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is beautiful but I like it better in middle name position. For a few suggestions how about:
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Haven[/name_u]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
You have a lovely list, I understand why it is so hard to narrow it down! My favourites are [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are all favorites of mine but because of their length I feel it would be odd to pair them with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. The top 3 I personally would keep are [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
My votes are for [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is also nice but I agree it is probably too much plant. I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] but think it is more popular than some of the others. [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] I like but worry about the virgin part.
I really like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]. I kind of think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sound a little too… matchy/cutesy. I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] have the same vibe and are a good pair. I also like that [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] isn’t heard that much these days. I know three Pearls under 5.
