My husband likes very masculine and mainstream names but I tend to like more quirky or uncommon names (but not so weird that they are open invitation to bullying), with a bit of a new found love for some vintage names.
We have two other girls and one boy with the names:
Tiannah [name]Jill[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name] [name]Roy[/name]
[name]Charlize[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
(note; the MN’s honor family members and this time round we are looking at using [name]William[/name])
Can you tell me what you think of these choices so far or put forward any other suggestions:
[name]Cooper[/name] (our choice if our last bub had been a boy, but not so sure I’m in love with it anymore…hubby still is though)
[name]Luca[/name]
[name]Orlando[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Graydon[/name]
Thanks…
I like [name]Luca[/name] with your other children’s names.
I love [name]Luca[/name] the best! Then I like [name]Cooper[/name] and [name]Graydon[/name].
My favorites from your list are [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Samson[/name] (though I prefer [name]Sampson[/name]).
I would stay away from another “C” name, personally.
[name]Samson[/name] is a great fit with Tiannah, [name]Caleb[/name], and [name]Charlize[/name]. I could see [name]Dexter[/name] working too. They aren’t exactly the conventional “matching” sibling set, but somehow all four names seem to complement each other.
Thanks - I’m really torn on [name]Samson[/name]. I have scrubbed it off my list and added it back in a few times now because I love it as a complete name but feel certain, no matter how much I protest, people will inevitably shorten it to [name]Sam[/name] which doesn’t have the same attraction for me. I think I will need to think on it some more.
No votes for [name]Orlando[/name] so far though, which is about the response I expect from my husband, so I think that one may end up off the short list! [name]Shame[/name] we have set a precedence of family middle names on our other children, because the more I think about it the more I like it as a mn.
Thanks for the feedback guys : )
I was the exact same with [name]Samson[/name] when I was pregnant, except I liked [name]Sam[/name]. I am a firm believer, though, that you can control what people call your children. We ended up naming our son [name]Samuel[/name] (which, incidentally, was nowhere near our short list) and we call him [name]Sam[/name], but every time we introduce him to people, they always call him [name]Samuel[/name] until they hear that we call him [name]Sam[/name]. I can tell that people want to instinctively call him [name]Sam[/name] or [name]Sammy[/name], but every single person has made a point to find out if we are okay with that first. My name is [name]Catherine[/name] and I never went by a nickname and no one called me by any unwanted nicknames. My advice is to NOT cross a name off your list just because it has a nickname you don’t like. When he’s old enough, of course, he’ll call himself what he wants (and it may or may not have anything to do with his name), and you’ll forfeit all control.
That said, of your choices and with your other kids’ names, I like [name]Jasper[/name] [name]William[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name] [name]William[/name] the best. Of those I slightly prefer [name]Jasper[/name] because I think it sounds more “cool” where [name]Dexter[/name] sounds a bit more “brainy.”
Thanks cathyc - I will keep it in there for now I think, but I have to say I am growing more and more attached to [name]Jasper[/name] myself, especially seeing it next to [name]William[/name]…now to work on a way to sell it to hubby!
