I’ve been crushing on Cana ([name_u]Kay[/name_u]-nuh) for a girl.
But I don’t know if it’s usable or not, because:
It might come across as weird to some people
It is really tied to religion (Cana of [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] is where [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] performed his first miracle, he turned water into wine). But I’m not religious and neither is DH.
It looks like Caña, which has quite a variety of meanings in Spanish. Nothing bad, things like pint, cane, glass etc.
I tried looking for an alternative spelling to eliminate 2 & 3 but all I come up with seems made up to me.
I think it’s a little weird but for a different reason: when I first saw Cana, I immediately envisioned a dog because Cana is so similar to the word ‘canin’.
I like the spelling Cayna, which would clear up any confusion over the pronunciation. The only thing I dislike about that is how much it falls in with [name_f]Cayla[/name_f], [name_f]Caylee[/name_f], etc. But names that end with the “na” sound keep coming up on my list, and I think they sound a lot stronger and more defined than all the names ending in “la” and “ma.”
I like the sound of it, but I’m not crazy about the spelling. I’ve heard this name used before but I can’t remember how she spelled it. If it were me, I’d probably spell it Kayna or Kaina.
