What are everyone’s thoughts on the name [name]Canaan[/name]. It’s pronounced like kay-nahn (I’m really bad at writing out pronunciations, so I hope that makes sense!!) I use to really like this name then I kind of forgot about it, but it recently popped up on my radar again. I’m just kind of unsure as to what others think about. Opinions? Thanks!
The promised land of milk and honey? Not a good idea for name O_o
I like the name [name]Canaan[/name]. It is a soft name, though still very masculine.
This was only my list for many years - I had it as a girls name, but i still love it for either male or female.
I’m with [name]Ren[/name] on this one. Great sound, but maybe not the best idea for a name.
We named our family dog this; he has since passed.
But we pronounced it “[name]Kay[/name]-nin.”
I have mixed feelings. I think the promised land is a beautiful association but Biblically the civilization that lived there was a piece of work…
I love it. I would use it, but my husband has nixed it.
I am not sure if it has political implications- like if you name your kid [name]Zion[/name], people are going to assume that you are either a Zionist or a Rastafarian. So I would check into that and make sure you are comfortable w. that before using it.
I pronounce it ka-nah-ahn. Three syllables, or with a bit of a stop/stutter in there. http://www.forvo.com/word/canaan/ Or kah-NAN at most mushed.
I wouldn’t use it as a name because aside from the strong religious connotations, there’s the pronunciation issue. I’ve heard kay-nahn, [name]KAY[/name]-nin, like cannon, etc.
