Cannot even get it narrowed down to a few choices

[name]Hi[/name] all,

I am new here and almost 37 weeks pregnant. We have been trying to decide what to name this child since the stick turned blue and we are having no luck. We were kind of hoping for a girl because we had so much trouble deciding on a name for our son.

Here is some info that might help with any suggestions:

  1. I am English speaking and so is my family, but my husband is French-speaking and his family really does not speak much English. Our kids go to French school, we live in an area that is about 50/50 French and English speaking, with most being at least somewhat bilingual. This is a long way of saying that a French name would not be outlandish here in [name]Canada[/name] and we have a French surname. But my fam is American and we don’t want anything that will be a major pronounciation problem for either side.

  2. Our surname begins with A.

  3. Our other kids names are [name]Madeleine[/name] and [name]Graham[/name]

  4. I think my husband really wants a French name for our little guy. I am kind of lukewarm on that idea since many names that I love were taken by other family members. Not sure I like anything hyphenated–ie, [name]Jean[/name]-[name]Luc[/name].

My list: [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Keaton[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Edmond[/name]

Husband’s list: [name]Louis[/name] (would def be loo-ee), [name]Remy[/name], [name]Charles[/name], [name]Etienne[/name]

We both like [name]Sebastien[/name], but it’s very common here.

Anyway, would love some feedback–everything is starting to sound blah.

I like [name]Henri[/name]. The name [name]Henry[/name] has become way too popular for me in the US, but the French pronunciation would set it apart for you. Cute!

Can’t do it–I have a nephew named [name]Henry[/name]. It’s really tough. My husband has over 70 (!!!) first cousins. My kids have 10 cousins and 8 of them are boys. So many names have been used.

Ugh, too bad. I love [name]Felix[/name], too. That’s on my short list, too.

I love [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Felix[/name], and [name]Charles[/name]!

Other ideas that would may sound okay in French/English and with your other children”s names:

[name]Julien[/name]
[name]Adrien[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Damien[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Eliot[/name]/[name]Elliot[/name]/[name]Elliott[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Bruno[/name]
[name]Eric[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Leon[/name] (nn [name]Leo[/name])
[name]Mathieu[/name]
[name]Raoul[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Paul[/name]

I looove [name]Etienne[/name]! My other favorite French boy name is Lo”c.

Here’s a pretty good list of French names.

I like [name]Charles[/name] from your husband’s list. Other ideas for French-inspired names that are not difficult or odd in English:

[name]Olivier[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Julien[/name]
[name]Benoit[/name] (maybe a little difficult for some English speakers, but worth it!)
[name]Frederic[/name]
[name]Jerome[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Theo[/name]

Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Gwensmum, I love [name]Benoit[/name], but it’s awkward with our last name since it ends in an A sound.

I like [name]Charles[/name], but it would definitely be pronounced Sharl by his side of the fam and in school. With our last name, it kinda ends up as [name]Sharla[/name] when you say them together. I can’t decide how much of a problem this is for me.

DH is really hung up on [name]Remy[/name] and [name]Louis[/name]. I am trying to see if I could live with either one.

What about:
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Augustin[/name]
[name]Brice[/name]
[name]Damien[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name]
Emeric
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Lionel[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Mathis[/name]
[name]Maxence[/name]
[name]Nicolas[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name]
[name]Roland[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]

[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name]
[name]Axel[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name]

[name]Justin[/name]
[name]Stephan[/name]
[name]Christophe[/name]/[name]Christopher[/name]
[name]Cedric[/name]
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Alexandre[/name]

I like [name]Dominic[/name] from your list! I think it’d be best to go with something that works perfectly well in each language. So along with [name]Dominic[/name], names like [name]Charles[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]David[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Paul[/name], [name]Martin[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Tristan[/name]… More above.

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

I like [name]Ronan[/name] best, but I’ll suggest some others:
Acel
[name]Alexis[/name]
[name]Antoine[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]
[name]Corbett[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Geoffrey[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Julien[/name]
[name]Laurent[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Luc[/name]/ [name]Lucien[/name]/ [name]Luca[/name]
[name]Mathias[/name]/ [name]Matheo[/name]
[name]Noel[/name]
[name]Phillip[/name]
[name]Roland[/name]
[name]Sidney[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Turner[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Xavier[/name]

Let me know if you like any of these!
